+Finished+ Hasegawa VW Panel Van - Egg Girls Summer Paint

I'm doing a second build in a GB, I must be bonkers :mental:

This time, it's a little bit bigger (oooh, missus)

VW

It's a relatively simple kit, but the paint work will need some careful masking

I didn't take a standard sprue shot, but here they are, hung out to dry after a quick bath in soapy water

VW

They are the group in the middle.

There's 2 other kits in there as well. the other truck may yet make an apperance. 🤞

Also, the chrome parts had a brief encounter with Mr Muscle, but soon parted company after the relationship lost its shine.

The body had a bit of cleanup and was blasted with spray can primer

VW

I need to start mixing paint.

I've also made a start on the chassis assembly.

VW

It looks like the kit will go together really quickly. that's good because the decals will need some time.

More soon(ish)

/P

welcome along with build #2 and what a nice colourful choice.

I didn't expect to see a Kombi in the build but it's great to see one here.

Yes the masking and printing will be where it's all at with this build.

I like the drying rake, in sprue order I assume?

Good luck with this build and I like the fact build #3 (?) is lurking in the photo as well! :D

A quick update for today, and it applies to both builds, but I'll only post here

Primer has been sprayed on the rest of the plastic, and rattlecan black and white deployed where needed

Primed

I can start slinging a few more bits together now that's done.

The body colour for both vans needs to wait for more paint to arrive. It's due on Monday.

  • 2 weeks later...

The paint I was waiting for arrived, so work continues

I mixed up both the upper and lower body colours. The lower body looks a lot more yellow than the box art but it's OK.

The box art seems a more creamy shade.

Anyway

Paint has been applied

Saturday progress

Once I paint the upper body, there's very little left to be done. Some detail painting and chrome in places on the body.

Then I can give it all a clear coat and start decorating.

that's a lovely finish on the yellow!

Thanks Rich.

The yellow paint did go on nicely, but..... :worry:

It was niggling at me every time I looked at it. It wasn't really what I was aiming for, nowhere near the box art, so after a quick trip to Halfords it's been replaced

VW

Rover Arum White

That's much more like it. :yahoo:

The orange on the interior (Vauxhall Mustard Yellow) will also be used on the top half of the bodywork.

Oh dear

"oh dear"

were not the words I used.

A bit of a 🏀 🏀 ⬆️

Not a major disaster, just a bit of overkill with the Halfords spray bombs

the body shell is now being pickled in IPA and I'll start respraying at the weekend

I should still have time

OH DEAR!!!  :yikes:

That's a real shame you've had to start again. Clever idea to use a ziplock bag, help reduce the mess, now that is another clever idea I must remember.

hopefully you'll have better luck with the next attempt, I hope so cause I really like this build.

Thanks Rich

The ziploc keeps the mess down and helps prevent the IPA from evaporating as well

Got the bodyhsell cleaned up and priming has started again

Saturday

There are a couple of blemishes on the top panel. not sure what's going on there. :hmmm:

I'll be a bit more careful and try not to make the same mistake again

Progress report

I filed down those blemishes and re-coated with primer.

After the primer had cured, I resprayed the bottom half with the Rover Arum White

I apparently did not take pics, the mind must be going ....  :mental:

I spent some time this morning masking for the Vauxhall Mustard Yellow

Progress

It's a bit tricky in places

More paint was aimed at the model

Progress

and set aside to dry

Nice paintin' Tex!

I happen to know that the VW two-tone scheme can be challenging to mask 🙂

Well done, nice colour too!

I was watching your build and saw the difficulties you had so I was paying close attention

A sharp knife, a slow (un)steady hand and a willingness to ignore some of the ragged edges got me through

The colours were the closest to the box art that I could find in vehicle spray cans since the suggested mixes in the instructions just looked wrong when I started spraying.

It just wasn't the look I wanted.

Decals started

1 week left

They're a bit worrying due to the size, but so far progress has been OK.

I wound up with some strange brown spots on the roof after I applied the MicroSet. Fortunately they cleaned up with a damp cotton bud, but I've switched to Tamiya Mark Fit for this one

Not much left to do now

1 week left

This side was a lot trickier. There are some cut-outs in the main decal to allow for the handle and hinges, which need careful alignment

Once it's properly settled, there are infill pieces to be put in place.

Allrighty

The decal work is complete and I've almost finished the detail painting.

The second pic is the side with the infill decals for the door handle and the hinges.

They seem to have worked OK

I had a couple of small tears lining thigs up but nothing drastic and it all pushed back into place.

Decals this size are not an easy task if you don't get them positioned properly on the fist attempt

Anyway, it's almost ready for final assembly
