The I.A.R 81-C was an improved I.A.R 80, better armed with the new wing carrying two Mauser MG 151 20mm guns.Plane n°320 was flown bt Lt.Av. Mircea Dumitrescu of Esc.61Vt./Gr.6 Vt based on Popesti-Leordeni airfield during the summer of 44. This resin model from Romania is nothing but a pure gem and certainly one of the very best model from the cottage industry I had the luck to build. I wish they did a IAR 80 as the Hobby Boss has a lot of mistakes. So Here we are wih the pics:

Looks great.  I posted an IAR-80 build yesterday.  With it being a pretty unusual subject, what are the odds of two IAR aircraft being posted at the same time?

Question:  Did you mix the yellow to match the insignia decals or were they already close?  The insignias on the Hobby Boss kit were too pale looking compared to RLM-04.

Yes I saw your model and I am on my way to do a 80 too! Concerning the yellow shade I do not remember having a problem, the kit decals were very good indeed, and in the proper register. Regards from France.

Where did you take the inspiration for that? :) Icaerodesign recommends RLM 64 afaik.

EDIT: Ok, I now realize, yours is the build present on their site and in the magazine. :D Cool!

I did ask Radu Brinzan about that and RLM83 is a very close match to the Dark Green used by the Romanian Air Force. And yes this is the built published in Wing Master some years ago. Best regards

A beautiful rendition of this unusual airplane, Jean - not my area of expertise at all. The kit looks very nicely crafted indeed. It must have been fun to get the best out of it!

In all my years immersed in aviation and its history, I had thought there were very few types I had never ever heard of, and here you've surprised me in presenting one of them, and splendiferously so. 🔟 :goodjob:

Bonjour Jean ,

You bring life to this elegant Romanian built fighter, rarely seen with this monochrome upper camo ! . life with the positioning of mobile parts, and life with your  subtle treatment of weathering  specially on wings . to note this funny pitot tube with it's "zebra" paint! this kind of details made a convincing replica!

in a word I'm Fan !

PS : j'ai toujours le wingmaster où tu avais présenté ce modele, c'est sympa de le revoir .

Amicalement
