Gidday All, I'm a ship modeler but I thought I'd try one of those kits too. Rather simple, I'll agree:

F7F20 start time

At least mine came with instructions, although the scale was wrong.

F7F10 parts & instr

It turned out to be 1/600 scale.

Grumman F7F Tigercat 1

On a serious note, I've just seen your models of the FE2b and the Supermarine S5. They're incredible, absolutely superb! 👍 I doffs my cap to you.

Regards, Jeff.

a DH.2, is that what we're supposed to build from that kit?

I think I lost the instructions early in the build.....

Lord!  I think some of those parts were meant to be optional.  That thing is huge. Is that you standing on the front there?

I must have got a knock-off because my kit made me build these:

Whatever, I do like to see a nice bit of scratch-building and will follow this build with interest - whatever it turns out to be.

I'd like to build that in 1:144 scale, after I've finished this lady

Pull up a seat!   You can have this one...

Although there’s barely a buttock in it.

I'm intrigued, where do you get those 30 foot long matches from? :banghead:

Scratch built out of matchsticks glued carefully together.  It's no joke building one those - you need a whole heap of matchsticks to build even one.

I was clearly following a different set of instructions to you lot :)

You clearly have been using the Dragon instructions for this kit. I always try and tell people not to but will they listen to Martian? No, they always know it all and then come crying to me when they find themselves having to take out a second mortgage and move into an aircraft hangar and wondering why the Mrs has got the hump with them.

I spent years pondering how to make tiny Lewis drums in 1/144 scale.  You might say that the solution was somewhat... protracted  :giggle:

Has anyone ever been banned from BM for making dreadful puns?  Asking for a friend...

I’m confused at what I’m seeing. Looks like a nicely detailed tiny drum but I don’t understand. Is this a little piece of found brass work that you are going to mould and cast or did you make it somehow?

Oops. Sorry for the confusion there.  The drum is made from scratch.  Basically the brass rod was stuck into a drill and turned down to the right diameter.  The raised ring and centre recess being achieved by shaving it against the edge of a scalpel blade.  The rod was then mounted into the centre of the protractor and allowed to poke through the styrene sheet so both it and the protractor spun freely.  I next glued the little straight edge over the top and scribed the first radial line.  After that it was a matter of moving the protractor 14.4 degrees and re-clamping it with the bulldog clip/scribing the next line etc. etc. until all the lines were done.
