Here's the box art.

It's not a tank I'm very familiar with.  It's quite a bit smaller than Challenger 2/Abrams/Leopard 2 size tanks - roughly Centurion sized and a lot lighter at 44 - 48 tonnes (apparently Japanese bridges on average have a lower loading capacity than European bridges).  It has plenty of Horse Power at 1200HP and a slightly superior 120mm gun - a Japanese tank for the Japanese islands.

Hi Dave,

As I mentioned elsewhere I had noticed kits of "home grown" Japanese tanks quite a few years ago but never bothered to research them until now. I guess they probably were the 1950's Type 61 which was a 35 tonne tank roughly equivalent to the M48 with a 90mm gun, and the later Type 74 weighing 38tonnes with a 105mm gun and roughly equivalent to the M60 or Leopard 1. In both cases, by the time they entered service they were already behind their Western counterparts so they were replaced by the Type 90 with a 120mm gun, roughly equivalent to an early Challenger or Abrams. Their size and weight apparently cause a few problems when deployed in Japan itself as you mentioned, so the Type 10 is a bit lighter and has updated equipment it seems.

Not a subject I know very much about so this is interesting.

Hi All,

Most of the building is done.

It went together easily as I expected, only a little bit of filling and sanding was required.  The top and bottom of the hull just snap together so I can work on the wheels and tracks separately.

welcome along Dave with a great choice, great to see some modern Japanese armour in the build.

I'nm not 100% up to speed Japanese armour at all, just from the looks I would have said it was M1A1 size as well. But yes with the size of the roads there and the bridge/infrastructure their, big AFV's would struggle.

Looks to be a very quick build as well, though the scheme looks to be fun.

Good luck with this build, it'll be another fine addition to the gallery.

The tracks aren't painted yet and nor are the dust flap things, but that'll the main painting finished.

I'm not going to do much weathering a bit of dust and oil, but that's all.
