My two cents,if anyone cares. :banghead:I would say that the two aircraft are more similar to each othwr than the legacy hornet and super hornet are to each other, which were included in a STGB.

Same idea but going the other way. The Navy decided to finally build the Hornet the way it should have been from the start. Well at least in my opinion.

It's a bit of a fine line.  The current Dornier 17 family STGB includes the Do 215 and Do 217, but they are very obvious developments of the Do 17.  On the other hand, there is a groupbuild in the Bunfight for Hawker aircraft from the Tornado to the Sea Fury.  Although there is a clear line of development, they are obviously different types so it becomes a standard GB.

I think in this case it's best to look at it as the law would: is there precedent?

I believe so.  In a Spitfire STGB a few years ago we allowed the Spiteful and Seafang to be included.  I think there is a similar relationship between the F-8 and A-7.  We've done it before, so in fairness we should do it again.

But I'm still not convinced they are they same type.

well to add my 2 cents worth (real ozzie 2 cents as well!  :D)  it is a wee bit of a stretch for an STGB. There are a lot of external similarities between the two and probably a wee bit of DNA, but........

But if it means they go through to next year then why not........ plus there is a precedent, the Mitsubishi  F.2 in the F-16 STGB, look similar, but share nothing in common build wise.

But at the same time I'm interested so sign me up and partner in crime @helios16v will probably join in as well if he can find some plain old boring .....ie Non-CAG decals

How am I supposed to cut back on my GB/STGB commitments when you keep coming up with such good ideas for them?😁

I really enjoyed building Monogram's F-8 for the mud movers GB so I am more than happy to build another, or the Hasegawa F-8J I have, or the Hasegawa A-7D, or the HobbyBoss TA-7... anyway you get the picture.

🇺🇦

haha....I just found this one.......cutting back on GB/STGB's!!!!  :rofl2:

That's like me saying I'm not buying any more AM stuff...... @helios16v saying he's not buying any more Phantoms!! 🤣

Just admit it's an addition you can't quit...... now where was I on evilBay!  :D

Not sure if we've done this before but these two bedfellows could make a nice stgb or 'dtgb' (double type group build)

@Dansk, you know what you may have stumbled on a great idea which would solve a few problems we've had with some STGB ideas.......who would have believed you'd come up with a great idea!!  :tease:  :D

Having a DTGB Double Type GB (not to be confused with the LGBTQIA+GB :D ) would be a great idea and solve a few problems we have had with some of the GB/STGB ideas. Having double type build would solve issues similar to this one but would also offer up some great combo builds!!

Spitfire vs Bf-109, Mig-21 Vs F-4 Phantom, M4 Sherman vs Panzer IV or Tiger, or conflicts Iran vs Iraq, North vs South Korea, plus zillions of other pairings!!! We can have these now as GB's but getting numbers can and are much harder to get, and it 's a bit of fresh air in the STGB/GB mix.......

Maybe one DTGB a year (or 2 if idea is super popular.... Glorious Leader  @Enzo Matrix what do you think

ok I've finished hijacking this thread.... for now! :D

Super cool Rich. A DTGB as a regular concept opens up a world of potential. They don't have to be rivals either - bedfellows like; flying fortress and super fortress, spitfire and hurricane, etc

You boys want to re-invent the wheel?

Although a DTGB slot once a year, a "bye" without Bunfight, will get my support!

Mmm can just imagine B-17's taking on B-24's or Lancasters!!

But as Paul mentions they don't have to be adversaries, but could almost be a like a fly-off between types.

Arrrr yes we have had one of those and I know there have been similar ideas, but the thinking is the build is just between 2 types rather then flying adversaries, it would open it up to other build types.

Maybe even one between the top 2 losers from the STGB vote?

Just an idea to freshen up the builds........ and to annoy Paul by going off subject...... again!  :D

What a good idea.

Could also be a bomber and it's fighter escort plane, a mass production car and it's rally counterpart .....

a superhero figure and his sidekick, the posssibilities are endless. I'm glad you brought this up here @trickyrich it definitely didn't skew the thread off topic at all. 😉 I've never found an excuse to use this emoji until now yay! .....:offtopic:

it looks a bit mean though. here's a nicer ending... 😋

I just bought this at Fairford - count me in please.

Just a word of caution.  The French aircraft had a different slat arrangement so if you build one of these options, you may need to do a bit of scribing.

There are some seriously - and I mean seriously - excellent marking options on that decal sheet.

Seriously excellent decals for those options.

It's very unlikely that a French Crusader would be my choice, most likely the VF-11 Red Rippers option.

And I've got this excellent book, which shows a sequence of photos where aircraft 5357 of VF-11 crashes spectacularly off the angled flight deck.

Pilot shown reaching for the face curtain as it leaves the deck.  He was rescued following ejection.

Which shows French Navy used the double slat arrangement wing, as used on the F-8J.

+1

I may have some F-8s - although I must admit having used the Italeri one mostly as paint mule due to the disappointing plastic. Decal sheet's great though, and perfectly reusable on a more decent Hase or Academy kit - or even the Heller if you can find those.

edit: oh wait, SLUFs too?
Excellent, that means I can get rid of build the remaining old ESCI one:
