Italeri 1/48 H-21 "Flying Banana"-Flying Wombats I've heard of, but a Flying Banana?

Recommended Posts

Finally finished for your viewing pleasure, Italeri's 1/48 H-21 Flying Banana. Mostly OOB with the BigEd H-21 P/E masking set.  Some extra decals from my spare box to give this little chopper Edwards AFB Test Center Rescue Chopper livery late 1950's. Paint a mixture of Model Master, Tamiya, and AK Interactive. Lower portion is Bare Metal Foil Chrome.

Excellent, I bet it’s a pain to handle and display in the cabinet! Looks great

Don't have a Cabinet(I wish), but it did land safely:pilot:

And a peek at the lower shelf.

Drawback they area a pain in the "You know what" to dust at times. I am going to have to break down and start hanging more finishes up. starting to run out of shelf space.

You’ve got quite a few beauties in your not-a-cabinet display! And some unusual aircraft, too. I like!

Thanks Bill. That's the Flight test side. The other shelves are more "normal" kinda.... sorta.

Nice work on the H-21, and lovely collection. Sad to see it gathering dust though.

Cheers,

Wlad

Thanks Paul, It's a good kit that builds out real fine. The areas to watch out for, and these were pointed out to me by @Pappy, are the bulkhead and front canopy may be smaller than should be cause some fit issues. But nothing too grievous to handle.

A beautiful Banana, and the extra details really make it come alive.

The Vertol 44 (ex-Piasecki H-21) Flying Banana was the first helicopter in the Swedish Defence Force, with nine hkp 1 (Helicopter 1) serving with the Swedish Navy (Marinen) from 1958 in the roles of SAR, transport, mine clearing and anti-submarine work.

The hkp 1 could take on board 20 fully equipped soldiers or carry 2 metric tons of cargo. Thanks to flotation gear, it could land on water. The photo above was probably taken during a demonstration.

Kind regards,

Joachim
