Aoshima 1/32 Hino HH Tractor unit

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is Aoshima's Hino HH tractor unit in 1/32 scale. I just finished this for Japanese GB. I have to say, it's one of the best truck kits I've ever built, with great fit and detail, especially in this scale! I really like this scale, in fact I wouldn't have minded at all if this had been the default truck scale.

The kit went together really well, it's detailed OOB but there's lots more room for detailing. In this case, since most of the chassis is covered with checker plate I only did a little bit of wiring.

Build log is here:

I'm currently in a "nice and shiny" phase, apparently. Paint is Tamiya X-18 Semi Gloss Black for the chassis and other major parts, Tamiya X-8 Lemon Yellow for the cab. Interior is Tamiya's Flat Brown. All chrome is Greenstuffworld, either sprayed or brushed. I made my own license plates using my Silhouette cutter, it's a little bit inaccurate in this scale but it's fine with me, it looks like a Dutch plate. No weathering as this is a very recent addition to the Van Dordt fleet, we haven't been able to put a dent in it yet! 🙂

Some build pics first because nothing of this is actually visible.

Plumbing of the air tanks. There were 8 air connectors on the tank but I deemed 4 enough. You can just make out the front and rear break wiring as well.

Only detailing I did on the engine was the fuel lines. You can see there are lots of stubs left to add more wires and hoses.

Now, for the truck itself. I recently did the Scammell in yellow and I liked it so I thought I'd do one more. The Hino is yellow with black chassis on the box art as well so for once I followed that.

I like the cab's shape which is a little unusual.

The mud flaps came from a supplied rubber sheet, very nice. The guys in Van Dordt's shop will have to do something about that yellow hose though, it's not as springy as it used to be!

Lovely build and the cab looks good

Have you got a bulk buy of yellow paint?😀

I expect they left the yellow line connected when they dropped the trailer, that always stretches them out!!

Thanks! Well, I still have about half a jar left! That's what you get for spraying so thin 🙂

Now that's an excellent excuse!

Is the new yellow a sign that the next generation of Van Dordt’s are taken over the family dynasty?

I've allowed it this one time!

Love this.

I'd like to have a crack at a lorry but the default 1/24 just seems too big in terms of shelf space. However, checking out what's available in 1/32, they seem to be even more expensive than 1/24. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places.

Thanks. Yes, these Aoshima 1/32 kits are pretty expensive if you can get them. I got this one for an absolute bargain. Heller do some in 1/32, but they're awful kits. Don't go there. You may want to try to get your hands on the 1/25 Revell Mercedes-Benz kits, I have a couple of those and they're an acceptable size. The 1628s is a really nice kit to build.
