Hasegawa 1/72nd CF104 Starfighter, 419 Sqn CAF, West Germany mid 1970s

This is my entry to this GB and goes quite well with my other GB's at the moment, a CT133 and a CF116 The kit is mainly from the box with a few bits of PE for the undercarriage and the ejector seat. The Green is from Vallejo ModelAir range and is supposed to be RAF Dark Green BS241. I am not convinced, it is too bright and too 'green' The decals are a mix of kit and Belcher Bits. The former are a bit thick and the latter quite fragile. The Hasegawa kit is very nice and holds up well, even after thirty years

Thanks to Paul and Craig for hosting this group, as it has got another kit out of the stash and built. Also thanks to Enzo for keeping us all safe.

My second F-104 build ever....

Hasegawa's beautiful kit in 1/72, but sadly with yellowing decal which cause more problem than building the kit itself.

Not my best, but still looks ok as long you don't zoom in the pictures 😉

The 1/72 Italeri F-104A/C kit built as a F-104C Starfighter of the 435TFS, 8TFW, while based at Udorn Thailand in 1966/67 but flying missions from there over North Vietnam, mainly as CAP for the bomb carriers but later in the mission, carrying bombs themselves. The subject of this build, 57-925 carrying the nickname Smoke II was shot down by a SA-2 missile on 1 August 1966 with the death of its pilot LtCol  Arthur Finney USAF.  It wasn't a bad build, quite a simple kit which generally fitted with little hassle. Brush painted with Vic Hobby water based acrylics from Japan, the top colours coming from their SEA  set, though I used Humbrol 28 for the FS36622 underside colour as I felt the Vic Hobby underside colour was a little too cool.

Having come across photos of other Japanese single seat 104's displayed as gate guardians, I decided to see if I could do something similar with this build, so I scratch built a pedestal, formed some eyelets for anchor points around the shank of a small drill and fixed everything to a based covered with static grass. As I said in the build thread, I have no evidence that this airframe was a gate guardian but thought that it would be a nice way to display this little model.
