1:32 Gloster Gladiator Mk.II *FINISHED*

Recommended Posts

The ICM Gladiator is pretty easy to rig, as biplanes go:

I always use Prym elastic, supplied as white but can be coloured to whatever you wish.

- Nothing new about rigging your beautiful Glad Dunny?

I'm currently working up the courage! I need to respray the exhaust collector this weekend so I'm hoping that will provide the motivation. Thanks for the continued interest,

Cheers,

Hi All,

The briefest of updates on the Glad! You can see that I'd neglected the cowling area when I sprayed the exhaust collector - I'd also noted a couple of prominent seams on the exhausts which I'd missed prior to paint:

The seams were therefore scraped back, and the existing paintwork carefully masked thus:

And here's the result after the respray, which at least to my eye is actually an improvement on the original!

I've since given it an oil wash and a flat coat, and it is looking suitably lovely. I'm now getting to the point where Bob's Buckles will become an unavoidable part of my life...

Thanks for looking,

Roger

And good luck with that.

I know they will look tremendous in place but fiddly.

Just realised on looking at the photo that I masked the wrong bit:

Ach well, it's not getting changed now. To be fair, no-one will ever notice...🤣

Looks great Roger, looking forward to that rigging.  It's not as scary as you think and you will be right chuffed when it is done.

Great work ghat collector ring looks awesome

Chris

Thanks Chris - I'm sure the rigging will be fine, and correcting the collector ring was the cue to get things going again!

Thanks for the kind words Johnny! It's certainly an unusual paint scheme so I'm pleased that it works,

  • Dunny changed the title to 1:32 Gloster Gladiator Mk.II *FINISHED*

Hi All,

I did a bit of loin-girding today, and decided to push on with the rigging. It really wasn't too painful an experience in the end, although it was a good few hours' work. Here's the initial bits around the cabane struts:

20220807-120021.jpg

I'm using Bob's Buckles for the first time, and they do add a nice touch in this scale. Here's the mainplane wires added - the cross-brace was added using 0.8mm plastic rod.

And here's the upper wing CA'd in position - the mainplane struts were glued first, then the cabane struts wrangled into position - they all located well and stayed in place:

Once that was complete there was very little left to do apart from a few fiddly bits so I'm now calling her done! Here's a few teaser shots:

I won't get a chance to do an RFI today as I'm in the middle of cooking a roast, but perhaps during the week. I'm glad to have this one done - it's been a beautiful build and the kit itself is simply superb. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to build this iconic aircraft. Thanks very much to everybody who has shown an interest and encouraged me along the way - it has been much appreciated!

Thanks for looking,

Roger

- It's a true  beauty, The buckles facilitate greatly the task, seeing the splendid result you achieve, I've made my mind I will not use the photoetched rigging but buckles and wire system...

-I'm eager to see your Strinbag...   J.M

Thanks very much J M - the turnbuckles definitely add an extra level at the larger scale. Good luck with your build,

Top Job, Dunny.

I am thinking about getting one of those.  But the flood damage has to be repaired etc. etc

I also need to finish a photography diploma.  Now they have got us making a web page.

Not finished web page here:  https://srcjphotos.com/  sorry no models.

I would rather build a kit and relax for a bit.

Stop winging, Jonsey.

Dunny you have done a fantastic job on this and the other kits.

Good to watch.
