There is no good OOB F4U-4 kit, I spent some time digging into this. Depends how fussed you are, and be aware there is also a load right tosh floating about various kits. If you want the 50's gray over white scheme, the was also used on AU-1, and while the dedicated Hasegawa AU-1 kit is hard to get, it's easy to backdate the F4U-7 kit, which was issued by Revell of Germany a while back. If you want a straight forward build with reasonable detail, Hobby Boss. It has its faults though. It's the best of the HB Corsairs, but only as the other -4 are poor. The Academy is a copy of the very old raised line Hasegawa -4 kit, with an added error of a too wide spine behind the cockpit. You will find many references to the Hase -4 being basically decent, and the Academy to being awful, its cobblers. I have a part hacked Academy -4, and found the fuselage too deep and square, so I got the fabled Hase -4, and it's the same. Plus raised panel lines and moulded in engine. There are -4 kits by Hobbycraft and a 60 vintage Monogram that gets repopped by Revell that are even worse. There is also a resin conversion by CMK, though for the money you could use the Academy nose and wings on the Tamiya -1......... Ages ago I was asking about some leftover Tamiya Corsair parts from your Thunderbolt/Corsair kitbash for just these reasons.... If you would like more info on this, just ask! HTH T Hi Troy I've tried to send you a PM but form some reason I can't? anyhow, I'm away on holiday in Cornwall until the 12th and I'll confirm that I still have the parts when I get back, I'm 99% sure I still have them rgds John(shortCummins)

81-er
I think the answer to that one is however you want as it's you who's eating said scone, while debating the REAL question; does it rhyme with "gone" or "cone" 🤣 James

shortCummins
I want to add a control ring to the cowl flaps, I’m not sure that these will be visible once fitted to the aircraft?, so after a base coat of the salmon pink mixture I dabbed some CA glue to act as connectors for the control ring, these will be painted after the ring has been attached. The control ring was shaped from some thin wire… And then glued to the CA mounting blocks, some Tamiya tape was cut into thin strips, glued in place as “catches”… Both the ring, mounting blocks and catches were painted with more of the salmon primer and then picked out with some vallejo 77.702 duraluminium. There are ribs on the front cowl that I’ve added with some strips of plastic. Once again these were given a coat of the salmon primer. Next I’ll be applying some rivets. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

Biggles87
Nice work on the cowl flap interior, I wouldn’t even attempt something like that in 1/48 these days and I took the easy way out on my 1/32 version with a Neomega resin set. John

shortCummins
I wanted to follow a suggestion from John (Biggles87) and paint the push-rods black. Before starting on the rivets I needed to build the wing/wheel well subassembly. I’d previously applied a coat of salmon pink primer over aluminium which I’d chipped. It was a shame to cover this as I really liked the effect however I sprayed a coat of MRP-135 insignia white (on top of hairspray)… …which was then chipped in an attempt to show both the salmon and aluminium. The top wing and intakes were fixed to the lower wing. Flaps and “outer” wings were assembled Next I’ll be adding the rivets. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

Grey Beema
Great work so far John. Are you building it ‘Flaps Down’ or ‘Flaps Up’ John? I’m curious because I want to see how you are going to cover the covers that go flush with the Flaps in the Up configuration..

Biggles87
Nice work n the wheel wells John. on the subject of the flappery it might be worth checking on the square hole ( foot step? ) something in the back of my mind is saying that not all sub-types had them, just a thought. shortCummins
It was easier to add the rivets prior to attaching this subassembly. I started by adding start and end points for the rivet lines with a felt-tip pen… …then these dots were joined by lines of rivets using my “Rosie the Riveter” tool. IPA wipes were used to clean off the dots, then the “horizontal” rivet lines were marked and joined then I used some “permanent marker” to highlight the rivets (cleaned off with som IPA). Next I’ll be adding the wings to the fuselage. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)

shortCummins
The wing-root subassembly was attached… …followed by the horizontal stabilisers I’ve decided to have the wings extended rather than folded… …the “inside” of the spar has been left salmon pink… …outer wings attached. Next I’ll be preparing for painting. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
Biggles87
Looking very Corsair-ish now. I just went to page 1 by mistake and realised how quickly you had reached this stage, I would probably still be working on the cockpit! John 🇺🇦
