Gosh almost missed the bus Alistair.  Great work on painting the cockpit and instrument panel.  These Arma models always look the bees knees on BM.🙂

Colin

Thanks Colin,

They are fantastic kits.

Cheers,

Alistair

Looking great Alistair, nice wear work showing.

Office looking fine.

Keep steady mate.

Stay safe.

Simon.

Thanks Simon,

I painted some Desert Yellow on then the Nato Black and when it was barely dry gave it a wee rub with some old sanding sponge. It seemed to work for me.

I got lucky again.

Ain't that the truth. :D

I played with some of the bits today.

First up I tried to paint the Chromate Yellow on the wheel well ribs.

Then a little more detailing on the well walls.

After that I gave various parts a wash.

The green got a brown wash and the yellow got some Nuln Oil to blend everything in.

When I say blend in what I really mean is cover up some shoddy painting. Ho hum.

I'm just waiting on the paint drying on the photo etch to get them and the belts fitted and then it'll be time for a light dry brush

Beautiful work thus far.  Did they get the front edge of the wing correct on this one?  Hard to tell from the photos thus far.

I'll be happy to look in on this one!

Thanks very much.

As to the second part I'll need to leave the answer to those who know a lot more than me.

I'm a bit of an imbecile when it comes to stuff like that. :D

I managed to get the nerve up for the scary gluing part.

As with all the Arma kits I've built so far you need to be very careful with the placement but everything kind of sat in place here.

A quick dry fit and........ Tada.

I need to remember to paint and fit the tail wheel before i commit to glue on the fuselage halves.

All in all I'm pleased with the result.

The fit of this particular beastie is quite stunning.

Thanks for looking,

Thanks so much Chris.

A wee update for the evening.

The last couple of bits to be painted before the fuselage gets closed together.

You’re making some quick progress Alistair, all the while maintaining a superb quality of work.  72nd isn’t my scale so one of these isn’t in my future but it does look to be a great Mustang kit, albeit that they put panel lines on the wings.

Thanks Mark,

That is very kind.

I'm probably going to fill the leading edge panel lines but have to find out if Cheshire's one had them filled or not.

It probably did as he got it from an American unit. :D

You’re welcome, fully deserved.

All Mustangs had their wings puttied and smoothed at the factory.  The only panel lines that would be visible on the topsides were those around the ammo and gun covers.  Similar underneath but not identical.  I can dig out a diagram if you’re interested in the details.

But, notwithstanding that it’s definitely a modeller’s choice on whether to fill them, it doesn’t detract from the overall look - and it’s not a particularly fun job!

Thanks Mark,

I had seen a diagram which pretty much showed only the leading edge lines puttied but if you could dig out the diagram that would be absolutely fantastic.

Cheers
