I've got wild staring eyes and a strong urge to fly - Arma Hobby 1/72 Mustang P-51 B/C

Recommended Posts

I know that Arma kits are fantastic as I have thought this since I built my first Hurricane but the detail and fit of this one out of the box is truly spectacular.

All this may change once I get my grubby mitts on it, of course, but on first fit there is barely a seam let alone a gap. :penguin:

Various other bits were clipped off for the start of painting.

There are a bewildering, but clearly marked, number of options for the internals and with my meticulous and lengthy research I am of course going to wing this completely and just go with what I fancy.

Very little of it will be very visible after the fuselage close up anyway.

There may be much butchering of this delightful kit later.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Cheshire's Mustang!!! Great!!! We are watching!

Unfortunately things like this happen sometimes, even if we carefuly examine all parts before packing into box. Sorry for that.

We replace any and every damaged part free of charge, just fill the form here: https://www.armahobby.com/webpage/support-faq.html#claims

Best regards!

Grzegorz from Arma Hobby

That, Sir, is excellent customer service. I have just taken you up on the offer.

A nice nod to Floyd sir, one of my fav bands.

Enjoy the build mate, it will be fun.

Stay safe.

Simon.

Absolutely I've spent nearly 40 years bluffing my way through work and I'm not changing now.

Mine too. :D

Cheers,

Alistair

it’s statements like this that make me very glad you don’t work on the ECML.

Well Alistair, I finally got around to buying the Arma Wildcat at the Perth show in a no doubt vain attempt to emulate your fantastic  build of that kit, and this thread will doubtless lead to me adding the Arma Mustang to my must-purchase list. I’m looking forward to seeing the fantastic job you do of this. The headmaster of my primary school (whose name I seem to have forgotten, well it was 50 years ago) was a former Lancaster pilot who had known Leonard Cheshire and on several occasions, he told us children of his great admiration for the man.

Craig.

(I’ve just remembered. Mr. Watkins!)

Wow, how can I go wrong with a great kit, a great plane and a reference to one of my favorite bands?  I'm in!

Welcome aboard.

Indeed you did. :D but I'm old, jaded and cynical, you know Scottish. So, until I get my grubby mitts on something I will Victor Meldrew it. :wicked:

Thanks Craig, I think. :D

Apologies if I've caused some leakage from your wallet.

To answer your other part. I worked in Edinburgh for 15 years and was regularly in charge of Panel 1 which covers Monktonhall Jn. to the regional boundary.

The fit certainly does look impressive Alistair.

Chris

It certainly is Chris,

I can only hope that butterfingers here can keep it that way.

Some Green, Black and Aluminium paint has been flung at plastic after priming.

I'll need to mask off for more aluminium, chromate yellow, black and olive drab tomorrow and then get the brush out for various detaily bits.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair,

That's certainly impressive engineering on the kit and you've cracked on nicely with the interior!

Thanks Roger,

I am seriously impressed with the fit so far. Certainly in comparison to the Sunderland. ;)

Coming out of the Matchbox GB my standards for ease of assembly are now pretty high. Maybe Arma Hobby has managed to capture "Eduard/Special Hobby detail" and "Matchbox buildability"?

Adrian

Sorry, my experience of Matchbox kits did not include "ease of assembly" unless perhaps this included being willing to accept a range of values for wing dihedral (to think of just the one example.)  Simple, yes, with few but crude parts by modern standards, but not good fit without working on them?  The quality did admittedly vary considerably across the range.

Some more work with the hairy stick to come and if I get time some stickers.

Steady does it Alistair.

Looking nice.

Thanks Simon,

I needed to go slowly with the cockpit transfers.

There's some pretty small stuff there.

There has been some progress involving paint glue and stickers.

That's it for tonight.

Tomorrow, some photo etch to deal with for belts and grills and once that's done some dry brushing and a wash or two just to make things look used.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

Waow !! I'm late to the party !!

The bird is almost assembled !!

May I look for a place at the bar ??

These Arma kits look really good, I hear about a 1/48 Hurricane Mk II, can't wait or dream about it...

It will be a "Take my money and send me 2 affair" for a start at least....

Great work Alistair !!

Sincerely.

Thanks CC,

Pull up a chair. I'm salivating about the 1/48 Hurricane as well.

This will slow down a tad as I'm back at work on Thursday.

Alistair
