Cheers Keith, and that’s from 2019! Someone should put more of these car announcements on the rumourmonger thread if it’s not already there.

That would be a good idea. I only caught this by chance as I'm usually building wingy things and tend to keep my eye on rumourmonger, but an SD1 would be amazing. Is it likely to be pricey?

I think Beemax kits are usually about £40-£50 so would expect something similar (says the person who hasn't bought a Beemax kit yet!)

I guess this would be the asked price..more or less😇 and roundabout another 20,-- for the usual detail set.

Cheers! Being that I recently forked out over £100 for three standard arch Escort Mk II bodyshells (and lovely they are) I think I could stretch to £40 to £50 for a whole SD1 kit.....I'll still get a slap from the boss, but it'll be worth it.

That's easily sorted - just make a list of everything @Andy J buys this year and demonstrate your self-control by saying "This is what the typical modeller buys" :D

You almost got it right....but not quite. You should have written "This is what the typical SENSIBLE modeller buys ". Jose Mourhino is known as the special one i see no reason why i shouldn't be known as the sensible one 🙂👍

No reason? I can think of a few - how long have you got....?! 🤣

So in response to @keefr22 comment above here's my guide to sensible buying;

First off don't buy a kit just because the box art looks smart this can lead to impulsive purchases.

Research is very important before purchasing any kit I recommend at least 30 seconds of homework before dropping into one's basket.

Stick to buying a couple of kits per month though discounts can be found for multiple purchases 😉.

Right I've just received a message from Hiroboy regarding some research I've been doing so toodle pip see ya later

I’m going to say this very quietly, so @Andy J doesn’t hear, but if anyone wants a 1:1 reference to work from when they build the inevitable etc., then:

Thanks M now I have the reference material all I need is the kit 🙂👍

As the kit is going to be a race car, this might be more use?

It'll save scratchbuilding that lovely Vitesse interior!

I’m relying on Motobitz or C1 for the interior… 😜

12 grand seems a small investment for reference that you can drive… £80k is beyond rational, even for @Andy J

best,

M.

Good point M and actually quite poignant to my recent model kit shopping. Originally there were 6 Alpha kits on my wishlist...however I did feel that buying all 6 would be a tad irrational so I've ordered just the 4 for now which shows what a very rational person i am 🙂👍

Looking at Hiroboy, I see it's 4 down, 26 to go - why do I get the feeling staff bonuses at Alpha Kits could be quite generous this year? :hmmm:

No staff bonuses on my behalf Spiny..I have what I wanted and I shall spend no more 😌

Heller made a little 1/43rd scale RoverSD1 way back.

Some after market company made an upgrade set to bring it up to race spec with parts, wheels and decals.

I think the company was Robustelli in Italy who made a number of other PE sets and badges egg too.

Re-reading all this, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants to build it as a road car!  The front & rear spoilers are already in place for a late Vitesse which is ideal, and also saves me hacking up modifying the Polistil diecast I bought a while back with the intention of turning it onto a Vitesse.  A bigger job than it appears, as the diecast is actually a Series 1, but it will instead probably be restored to its former Jam Sandwich glory to go along side the Vitesse.

It will be interesting to see how much will need to be changed / added to convert it back to a regular Vitesse.  If no one else does it. I may well 3D print the parts I need, especially those wonderful cross spoke alloys.  Anyhow, I can't wait to get my hands on one - hurry up Beemax!

In case it is of interest, I've Just found the thread on another forum which originally inspired me to buy the old Polistil diecast Series 1 3500 - this thread is about turning one into pretty much what the Beemax kit will represent:

That was a good looking effort, shame it didn't seem to get finished.

The SD1 ❤️

Definitely one of my favourite outlines, and definitely the most nostalgia bringing car of my childhood. My father had 4 of these as I was growing up, starting with a 2600S in metallic turquoise, followed by a 2600SE in brown, a 3500SE in dark blue and finally the daddy - a 3500 VDP in red :)

All but one of them one broke down on numerous occasions (Twice on our way to the family annual holiday !!) I recall head gaskets being a common problem..

But it’s never dampened my love for the design or the interior of this classic. The interior of the VDP alone would be a delight to construct !!
And having never felt a particular desire to make a car before, this would certainly be likely to draw me in !!

When I worked for Sony we had one of those as a pool car - I hated it! As you say they weren't renowned for their relaibilty, and the steering was horrendously light and with that dreadful design of steering wheel it often seemed more luck than judgement as to whether you actually had the thing pointed where you wanted to go....!! 🤣
