Does your favorite AFV in here?

you built similar AFV before?

have cool camo / classic color scheme could suggest?

you plan to build / buy same AFV too?

Since I'm not a diehard fans of AFV / military stuffs,

I just enjoy the mechanical aesthetic & camouflage of it,

accuracy of the model kit is less important for me. 😅

So, if you have interesting story, history, hint / tip for any of them,

please share your experience / builds with me,

maybe, just maybe, I would shift the schedule and paint that one first.

Also, i have a question. Which brand of 1/72 do you like?

For those I have assembled, I prefer (Dec-2022 ver.)

Group 1, which are good QC, some may expensive: Zvezda > FlyHawk > Takom = Vespid ;

Group 2, which are standard QC, low price, wide range of choices: Trumpeter = HobbyBoss > Meng > Transform Color > S-Model ;

Group 3, which are good QC but little choices: Orange Hobby > Airfix > Academy ;

Group 4, which are low QC: Revell > Riich > Aoshima = Fujimi > Red Dragon > IBG > Master Box >  Hasegawa > Italeri > T-model .

The rest of "monsters, i.e. trailer series" are locked firmly under my bed, can't get out. 🤭

Sep-2022

began to let those "long" AFV out  😋

...looks like you enjoy building mote than painting ....

I like to assemble/cut out model kit right after bought.

it could save the space for storage;

know any problem hidden in the images on box;

help brainstorming camo / color scheme when seeing a real object;

get spare parts (fuel tank, water bottle, machine gun, tension wire, ...) for other AFVs;

compare with each other side by side;

etc.

you think i only OOB (out of box), an abbreviation from Japanese modelling,

represents modeller only assemble the kit w/o any grouting, modifying, painting.

Here is the first group photo of my AFVs.

I would post the completed AFVs in here for easy reference:

...you must unlock the Soyuz launcher...

Soyuz not a monster, it is Godzilla.

Although it is in scale of 1/150, it still have 320mm long.

if I let it out, even set in launch mode, it will used up lots of space of my bookshelf,

which space for displaying completed builds is a huge problem for typical modeller(s) who live in HK,

much bigger than how to get model kit from overseas.

[ the price for a sq. feet of floor area in residential is already above HK$20,000 (~US$2,550) ].

So i haven't plan to put it on schedule yet.

Have you see any completed Soyuz before?

I do have a Japanese blogs that has full review of this Godzilla.

you could study it from different angles.

wish you enjoy 😉

Welcome to the forum!

Ah, good: some AFVs in a sensible scale for a change!  A very nice collection.  Maybe I should learn from you and just build my models rather than just looking at the parts in the box!

In Europe some ranges are more difficult to get hold of.  My current pecking order is Vespid > Dragon > Revell (most of the time) > Italeri good ones > Airfix > Italeri less good ones.  I haven't bought any Takom yet.  I don't normally buy Trumpeter because they are often inaccurate.  Hasegawa are beautifully moulded but a bit simplified and sometime inaccurate by modern standards.

hi Seahawk

good see other modeller interested in 1/72 and/or willing to chat.

most of modellers in HK just know bandai, gunpla, only elderly still assemble military kits, but they don't use computer.

yes, you should (at least) build your kits. purpose of model kit is for assemble / play,

not some forgotten items in store room; re-sell to earn money ( which very popular in asia... ).

you already paid for it, unless you planned to re-sell them in the future, it is suitable to build it rather leave in attic,

since you can't build all the model kits you bought, unless you are build one - buy one guy. those boxes are just rubbish when you getting old / pass away.

therefore, it is a better to "enjoy / build" model kits even not paint it.

opposite to your situation, Italeri and Revell are less popular in my town. 1/35 is fine, has new products regularly, but almost no new products for 1/72 series.

they are in bottom of my pecking order is because i only built two Revell (one is great, one just so so); one Italeri (bad quality).

it is sad that Takom's official website only show useless boxart, its plastic, quality, price, etc, all are similar to Vespid.

would higher than Vespid just because it has more products at this moment. (Vespid just has four AFVs, not count the variations).

about Japanese brand, Aoshima only publishes the military of Japan; 1/72 from Hasegawa seems ended, no new product (?).

about mainland china, Trumpeter, HobbyBoss seems came from same company (?), their price are reasonable, QC are above average, already have wide range of AFV, etc. But not always provide clear parts as glass / window...

on the other hand, Red Dragon's plastic & QC is similar or even lower than ltaleri, but the price is higher.

I just bought a kit by Red Dragon that the "rubber" track in the box is broken into pieces, I go back to shop to exchange good one, but 4 of 5 boxes are same situation.😵

I agree. With limited budget and storage 1/72 is ideal for me. I find Revell varies greatly. (Compare their Tiger Is and their Panzer IIIs.) IBG and Zvezda seem to have good detail even if I'm not up to checking detail accuracy they look good if built and painted well.

@Seahawk and @Yg Models and all you other 1/72 builders, keep up the good work! :clap:

There are a few of us 1/72 modellers in here, for me it is a space issue I want a large collection but I wouldn't have the room to do it all in 1/35. I'll just reserve 1/35 for the odd favourite subject.

model collect are a Chinese brand that seem to focus on cold war/modern Soviet/russian armour and 'what if' German designs, if you are interested in either of these give them a try.

I'll try any manufacturers and tend to go for subjects that interest me rather than the kit brand.

I would like to see more Chinese subjects by the Chinese brands. China has some very interesting AFV and I've only really seen a few in 1/72 from dragon, trumpeter and transform colours, s-model do a few too.

of course no brand will be perfect, and you won't see / know every brand all over the world.

that why i list out my pecking order, and ask others to share theirs.

For reference, chatting, not to find out which one is the best.

Every brand has its favorite army and era. But when same AFV is published by 2~3 different brands,

since i chatted with other in here, now i have a guideline / reference to choose the one suitable for me.

certainly i choose the AFV I am interested rather than the brand.

For example, I won't waste money to buy Takom's M1A1 Abrams from oversea online shop just because its has cool details;

or i just bought Red Dragon's Tiger-I (since it is the only available Tiger-I in my town), even i know its QC may not up to my standard.

Also, i missed / ignored "model collect" before.

thx to your reply,  i make a note and will search for it next time visit shops.

btw, thx for explaining the features of "model collect".

I remember I saw "S-models", its packing quite different from others, using cardboard. How about it quality / feature?

does "transform colours" be a brand too?

what is yours favourite subject reserve for 1/35 ?

hi echo

yes, latest model kit by Revell is quite good, but not easy to find them in my town.

I just painted Revell's T-55AM, which is good QC & details 😋

52037173231_3ac044015b_w.jpg

also, i just setup Red Dragon 's Tiger-I -w zimmerit, the details is quite good in this scale. take a looks and compare with yours Revell one.

Furthermore, after let Tiger-I out, i finally know Sturmtiger share the same body of Tiger-I.

It is much easy to find out / understand this when putting two AFVs in front of you.

51992112495_4d2c70cf3a_w.jpg

btw, five more AFVs have break the seal. So i take a picture of them, and put it on top of this post. 😙

I have see some old IBG in town, but never see Zvezda in here.

haha, unless have water decals, i won't try to paint pixel camo on 1/72 AFV, really can't maintain the rectangular of every square.

but i have done similar / hexa camo on a 1/72 sci-fi Heli ( Killer Bee in "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" ) before.

I hope the tracks fit better on your Red Dragon Tiger I than my Revell Tiger Is. They are link and length with reasonable detail but they don't fit the front sprocket. The sprocket teeth are quite pronounced but there are no corresponding holes under the links to fit the sprocket teeth! The sprocket teeth need to be removed where the links touch the rims on the outer edge. The inner edge fitting is fine.

A real nightmare if you leave the teeth in place as I tried to do....................

hi echen I had exactly the same idea as you, I have a trumpeter t-80bv waiting for this paint mask I ordered from China.

2mm should be small enough for 1/72

@sardaukar I am going to try disc cam by hairy stick on my JP IV though. I think discs will be easier than square pixels.

(See the Hasegawa JP IV in my signature below.)

most kits created in the last 10 years or so are very good. a lot of the European brands are very old kits so quality can vary a lot.

one of the best kits I've built recently is the ammo t-54b which I believe is actually takom. I have some flyhawk stuff I'm looking forward to building too.

have you checked out hobbyeasy.com this has a fantastic selection of brands and kits and is based in Hong Kong.

s-models kits are kinda quickbuild but they are still very detailed and cover some interesting subjects, you also usually get two in a box and seem to be very cheap in Asia.

I have that ZTL-11 waiting to be built too

yes, i do know hobbyeasy.com.

i 'm old school guy, feel online shop sells products at same price ( even higher ) as per shops in downtown.

but it doesn't need to pay rental, shopkeeper salary, electricity, etc. and earn more from shipping fee, i.e. are greedy.

also using online shop, you can't chat with / ask something to shopkeeper; can't check the parts; can't compare 2~3 boxes at the same time; difficult to replace defeat parts, etc.

in general, the background company of this kind of online shop is the importer itself, or has very deep relationship with importer.

the price for every kit is same as the one in shops, i.e. they already earn money when sell products to retailers, then setup online shop to earn money from target customers of those retailers, how bad are they? the market just like whole cake, they already eaten 1/3, now want to eat the rest of cake too...

 therefore, i would visit shops in different districts rather than click the buttons at online shop...

however, since you suggest hobbyeasy.com,

i finally register an account in there. and find out it has a shop in downtown, so no need to pay shipping fee.🥳

thx a lots.

thx, it seems interesting.

but i don't like building same AFV, even in similar variations.

so S-models not suitable for me. I would still check its product, maybe have some cool AFV i'm looking for.
