RF-86F 'Wood Pecker' Recon Sabre

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Here I present my recently completed RF-86F that I started back in Oct 2019, can't remember why it stopped but here she is. Built mainly OOB with the only addition being a Pavla resin seat. Build log here:

Basically, a Sabre kit with additional sprues for side blisters and camera housings. No problems during build. Painted with Tamiya AS12, kit decals for a JASDF unit.

Not a version you see everyday, she looks great

Cheers mate, much appreciated. I have never seen a Recon Sabre on display at any show.

And the Japanese markings really add a splash of colour. Nice one!

Thanks. The splash of colour definitely livens up an otherwise boring silver.

Need to get you interested in a QF now.............

Very slick looking model. Gotta love a recon bird. May I recommend mixing in a drop of retarder for hand brushing Tamiya acrylics? (If that's how you painted undercart wells.) I get mine from an art shop; compatible and much cheaper.

QF now

Cheers Terry. I'm clearing the shelf of 'birds', only got the K to do, then it's back to maritime. Sorry but QF is at back of queue...like your Vosper.

Thanks Maginot. I must admit, the Wells almost got forgotten about, so it was a little 'last minute' plus it's underneath...

Very nice indeed. Interesting paint scheme too. I turned my Fujimi/Italeri kit into an RAF F4, and found the wing-fuselage join underneath a pain to get right. Yours looks great, with all the camera gubbins creating further interest.
