Thom216
I started moving onto the superstructure. The 'pagoda' is made up of central halves and then front and rear facia. A clear piece for the front widows will be sandwiched in between, but that will wait until after paint. Until then the front is just slightly pushed in. For the 'stack' I snipped out the locating pins for the red top, That way it can slip in after paint without worry about masking. And on that red top, I ruined the front details while clipping and cleaning, so it was all sanded off. And then a wide strip of blank styrene was glued in place. I'll take some thin trip and glue them on to finish that off - but first I need for batteries for my camera.😄 Still chugging along! Thom216
What do you mean I have a month to go!? I'll never get it done in time! Okay, small steps... I'm done with the turrets. But first, repairs to the funnel were completed. The Third Bridge was put together. And the spacing between the lower antenna and the mounting rod were checked. And the aux engines and the main bell were added and put together with the stern fins. The main engine is being kept separate for ease of painting. And now the turrets. Bandai has a 'gimmick' where the barrels are 'geared.' As you turn the turret, arms at the end of each barrel run along a curve and the barrels raise and lower. Me no want. So off snippy those little arms from Parts E2, E3 and E4. And that would be that, but I also want a greater range in the movement of the barrels, as they don't rise very high, so off came even more material from the back end of each of those parts. *Don't take off too much though... The turret on the right is as-is from the kit, and the one on the left is modded. I may never display them raised that high, but the greater range is worth it. *however... I did take too much off from some and ended up with a few floppy barrels... What followed was adding back some material for friction, and brushing a bit of TET between the barrels and turret walls, working them so they didn't seize, but also made some friction spots. And done with them! I'll talk about the 'relaxation' of the hobby, amidst parts breaking and flying off into the ether, later. Enjoy the view! Do talk about carpet monster! I swear it is the same monster I had under my bed when I was a kid! Edited July 3, 2022 by Casey
trickyrich
Coming along nicely Thom, you still have plans on time to finish her. Arr the dreaded Carpet Monster! I now have tiles in my room and even that doesn't work, the beast still manages to consume important bits!! Plus I also have Dust bunnies to deal with, spend more that a week away from the bench and they take up residence. Nasty little buggers they too!
