JeroenS
I recently did 2 of the Revell T1's, a camper and a panel van. The latter was finished in 20 hours build time so I think I'm good with this one. Of course, you could also call it a pic-up like Hasegawa does. It must feel awful if you're the one who just had 10.000 boxes made. Maybe no one will notice! Anyway, this is a much simpler kit to build than Revell's versions because unlike those ones, the Hasegawa has a single part body. Chassis and interior are easy builds as well, so I should be good!

JeroenS
Yes, and we're off! Having just returned from a four night holiday in Germany, I had lunch and it's time to make a start with the VW! 13:30 exactly, with the 1 piece VW body (yay!) and my custom made tea mug with Metallica font. No Metallica on the speakers but my favourite Klaudia Gawlas set. Some banging techno should get me going pretty nicely!
JeroenS
An hour in and the chassis has been completed. It's a rather simple affair, so perfect Blitz material. Some nasty pin marks underneath but... who cares? Certainly not me. I already glued on the wheels because I think I can put on the tyres fairly easily as there's no ledge on the rim on the outside.
JeroenS
OK, getting the interior in wasn't that big of a deal 😉 So work started on the body. It's a 2-piece body actually, the rear cab wall is a separate part but easily glued in place. The body is moulded really well, no mould lines in sight anywhere. The pick-up bed needs some extra strips, 15 of them. There they are, all in place. It gives a nice 3d effect but now I need a break, this was a boring job! Two hours in, not bad. I need to start thinking about the exterior colour. I have no idea yet!
JeroenS
OK, time for the evening session. I've decided on a colour, it will be some mix of Dark and Medium Grey. And I'll do either dark red or black hubcaps and lettering. I don't know yet. My goal is to have a basecoat of paint on tonight.
JeroenS
Another 2 hours in and I'm ready for paint. This is an even better Blitz Build kit than I expected. Chassis and "interior". Body shell. As you can see I've already glued almost all the parts, instead of painting them separately I'm going to paint them with the body. I've already glued the hubcaps on as well. Why? Blitz Build rules baby! I plan to weather the VW a little bit so any flaws will be hidden with some rust and/or dirt. Easy! By the way, the kit gives you a choice to leave the load bed sides open, but I thought this would be a waste of the nice detail on the body. So this is everything that's left, besides some clear parts and tyres. Let's get some paint on! JeroenS
That's it for today. 5,5 hours in and there's a red-brown basecoat over black primer. It has received a quick gloss coat as well so it can cure for further work tomorrow. First a bit of sanding to get some of the dust specks off, then the plan is to use salt for weathering and spray the final colour. Hub caps are glossed as well, the underside will just receive a light coat of black(ish). Bumpers, same as hub caps and body. Dash will be medium grey like the rest of the interior.
nimrod54
Superb work as always Jeroen. The bodyshell is looking really good, I can't wait to see it weathered up.

JeroenS
Here it is, all salted up. Now with paint on. Interior and underside as well. I tried this salt method once before, and I really should make sure all of it is gone! On that particular build the salt crystals are shining through the paint 🙂 I hope this one will be better.

JeroenS
OK it's time for a lunch break. I'm very happy with where I am. Once I figured out that when you hold the body under the running tap the salt will brush right off, things went smoothly. Then, of course, I wanted my own (fictitious) company name on the sides. I use my Silhouette cutter to create the stencils. Getting them on was a bit tricky because of the many recesses but it worked out ok. The vinyl masks are very flexible and stick well. I sprayed the lettering in German Grey, black would be too... black. Once you've sprayed the stencils you should remove them immediately, otherwise the paint will stick to the vinyl masks. Right, I forgot that after lunch I'll be visiting my mother in law for her birthday. I know, priorities...
Pete in Lincs
That looks like it's been worked hard! I suspect that the Van Dordt factory is based in a granite quarry where they throw rocks at lunchtime! Lovely work on the paint and stencils.

JeroenS
Alright, let's get cracking again! Windows first, then dash, then mate chassis and body.
JeroenS
Things are progressing nicely. In terms of decals though, the kit is poorly provided. So, like for the T1 panel van, I nicked a pair of number plates from my Revell Beetle kit. Which now has no more Dutch plates! Anyway, chassis and body are together, wheels and bumpers are on.... Next up are lights. The front window rubbers are a bit sloppy. Let's call it wear and tear. I weathered the lettering and logo's. When I'm done with the lights it's just mirrors and wipers. I'll finish it off with some rusty washes and such (the rust patches on the bumpers for example are way too uniformly coloured) and finally a thin layer of dust. I mean those plates are a bit too clean aren't they.

Wondering if you could add a couple of items of cargo or just a tarpaulin to introduce some additional colour to break up the overall grey ?
JeroenS
Final update for today. I painted the lights and the VW logo in such a way that they don't look new. Lenses tomorrow. I added the mirrors and wipers, the latter are a bit crude. The mirror stalks look very black, I may chrome those as well. 1 hour ago, Richard E said: Wondering if you could add a could of items of cargo or just a tarpaulin to introduce some additional colour to break up the overall grey ? Well, I don't have a huge spares box but I have this, from an abandoned project. These are 1/35 scale items, but since the VW is not very big they might just work. What do you think?

Enzo the Magnificent
This is excellent! Can I suggest that you post your photos to this thread as inspiration. While your model is not in full entropy mode, it is certainly demonstrating how entropy takes hold.
