Airfix Vasa (Very old build)

Paul who is building this kit over in the WIP section asked for some pictures of my kit.

 

It is a kit that I built as a teenager.

 

Airfix 1/144 scale. I remember that I struggled to get it finished before a set date.

 

I managed to finish it very late December 1978. 350 years after it went to the bottom.

 

The model has survived surprisingly well. For a long time it was in a box in the basement and parts of the rigging has came loose just hanging in the threads but now it is collecting dust high up on a shelf. I have bought a second kit a couple years ago that I intend to build some time.

Gidday, that's an impressive model, especially for a teenager. At that age I threw my 'Revenge' together without even any paint. I did her again a number of years later, about 40 years ago now.

Your model here shows very good (gilded?) paintwork.

That is a lovely build, and one of the few Airfix sailing ships that I have not done. I am glad it has survived for you, good luck with the second kit, whenever you get the chance to build it.

Nice one. I can imagine your experience rushing the painting of all that golden 'gingerbread'.
