Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Dimensions...?

Recommended Posts

Kicking around the first kernels of the seed of a possible idea.

Would anyone know the approximate dimensions of the Eagle Transporter from the Space 1999 series, specifically:

  • Overall fuselage length
  • Fuselage width and overall width across the landing pods
  • Length of the "Passenger Pod"
  • The total footprint area occupied by the four landing feet

Many thanks

Well, a quick calculation shows that, if the 22-inch Round 2 Eagle model is supposed to be 1/48 scale (which it is), then the length of the Eagle is 88 feet (or 26.82 m). Other dimensions can be scaled from that.

Depending on the nature of your seeds and kernels, that can be a complicated question. In the fine tradition of Dr Who's Tardis, it's bigger on the inside/smaller on the outside. Here are a couple of links that try and dissect the problems:

https://www.eagletransporter.com/forum/threads/real-eagle-scale-vs-r2-22-model-scale.162214/

If you have a particular kit in mind, it may be more useful to ask for the dimensions of that kit.

Cheers,

Colin

The 22" Eagle is only nominally 1:48 and that is only because the 44" Eagle models used 1:24 scale Revell Gemini figures for the pilots, BUT they are much to large to fir through the doors in the passenger compartment, so these are not 1:48. Others have substituted 1:55 scale figures from the Moebius Moon bus instead to good effect.

For Eagle dimensions you can pretty much make it up as you go along because there will be no correct answer. The Catacombs website  has this to say on the subject:

It is impossible to determine the exact size of the Eagle as the interior sets and the SFX model have inconsistent dimensions (see Eagle Scale for a detailed discussion). The approximate length is in the 23-31 metre range depending on which errors (internal sets or external model) are neglected
