Supplier for display boxes?

Recommended Posts

I'm at the point in my King George V build where I'm going to have to start looking at a display box, otherwise it'll likely get damaged while handing between build sessions and I also want to keep it dust-free.

The issue I have though is I'm not 100% sure on the exact measurements I need. This is the kit in question:

I know it says length and width in the orange box but I'm not sure if that takes the stand into account, and how much I should leave either side. From what I've heard this is a somewhat popular kit so some guidance would be appreciated.

I've also had a look at some suppliers found in magazines and the prices are pretty steep, in some cases a couple of hundred quid. I'm not fussed about having the best quality, even if it's Perspex to keep the cost down, but the suppliers I've found are either really, really expensive or don't make that particular size. Anyone know of some good display boxes out there?

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe

Would these folk be able to produce something suitable for you ?

Hope this helps

That's pretty much spot on what I was looking for, many thanks. Do you by any chance know where I could find the missing height measurements? Been googling it and all I can find is King George's actual height.

Happy to help Joe, I've ordered a couple of display cases from them in the past which I've been more than happy with.

Unfortunately not - I mainly build 1/72nd scale aircraft so most maritime things are foreign to me even though I enjoy following other peoples' ship builds.

Sorry a little late to this I know but have you considered making your own?

What I have done for many of my models is get some 4 mm glass cut to size from my local glaziers and get him to take the sharp edges off.  Then simply glue them together on the base using specialist glass glue.  I've just had a look and I can't find any photos of my models in their cases - I must get some done.

I put the sizes into that website for a typical 1/600 cruiser (450 mm x 120 mm x 150 mm) and it came out at just shy of £60.  My glazier usually charges me ~£10 for that size.

I've recently found an online supplier of perspex who can do the same but cheaper still.  Only issue with them is their shipping was quite pricey (more expensive than the perspex) so I'm holding fire until I have 4 or 5 to do in one batch to spread the shipping costs.

Hope that helps
