Vacation build - Bronco 1:35 A9 Cruiser Tank ***Finished***

Having a week off so thought I would see how far I could get with the Bronco A9 I had in the stash. My last experience with the very similar A10 was a little

unhappy, but I figured why not try again (see here for that previous attempt:

Not a full build thread, just photos from where I reach at the end of each day. So far it’s been great - so much easier than last time. Or is it just that I know what to expect? Anyway, it seems to be going together well.

Thanks @Milan Mynar and @Bertie Psmith. Took a day off to go for a short break down south by the beach. Here is the view at sunset after a rather nice fish and chip supper.

Suspect my progress will slow significantly as it’s back to work on Tuesday.

Day 6

Tracks were the first bit to cause me any significant angst - were a tad fiddly to get to line nicely.

Two points I should make, during the 1939-41 period of Khaki Green 3 based vehicles, the disruptive pattern was almost always hand painted, not sprayed.  Every image I have of AFVs during this period all have hard edges to the patterning.  Spray painting in the RAOC workshops wasn't normal.  A 1939 camouflage appreciation note recommended hard edged patterning since blending colours and outlining with  a contrasting colour reduced the effectiveness of the scheme.  Factories sprayed the vehicle the basic colour then either Field Park Coys or regimental workshops added the patterning.    Tank tracks are a dark grey-brown, these are cast from manganese steel which doesn't rust nor require painting.  They do not show shiny bright worn metal either.

Effectively Day 8, though 6 weeks on!

Finally sorted the last bits of photoetch, made a bit of a hash of the water carrier frame, it looks a bit beaten up. A coat of paint on the main turret.

Another gap - this time due to a case of COVID. On the mend after a rotten week or so.

what is effectively Day 9, brushed on base coat of Light Stone all over.

Got a little sidetracked by another kit, so back to this at last. I’ve added a coat of Vallejo Dark Brown Wash to the tracks to make them look a little more grey-brown (as recommended by @Mike Starmer ) rather than just grey.  Also added a few bits and pieces I had some how missed before a coat of floor polish to prepare for the decals.

Thanks Roger. Working from home today, so managed a few minutes at lunchtime to get the very small number of decals on. The only I didn’t attach yet is the bridge plate, which is shown as yellow disk on a black background. Is that more likely to be a green background from the “original” paint job for the tank?

Started the weathering process by a dirty wash of diluted mix of Vallejo Brown and Grey model washes. Once this is dry I will add the tools and follow up with a few more focussed pin washes.

Thanks Roger. Taking it slowly in these last stages, don’t want to mess up right at the end!

So tools and exhaust fitted this weekend. Had a few issues with the brass manifold, so best not to look too closely. I painted the exhaust with MIG Ammo Old Rust. The tools look a bit “vibrant” at the moment, will be toned down by the following pin washes and dust washes. Realised I still have some etch to go on the “flimsy” rack for the back of the tank.
