Airfix began their range of 1:72 Vickers Wellingtons in 2018, extending it to different variants with the Mk.II reaching us in 2021.  As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, the set arrives in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between.

 

 

Two frets are included, one nickel-plated and pre-painted, the other larger fret in bare brass.  A complete set of new layered instrument panels; centre console with a compartment for the compass, added levers for the cockpit and the extensive radio panel for the rear cabin in full colour; a set of four-point seat belts for the pilot and lap belts for the other crew; a new control column yoke; substantial updates for the interior of the cockpit walls, including instruments and stowage boxes on both sides; wiring looms; stowed emergency equipment, as well as details for the gun turrets are also supplied.   Externally, the twin circular intakes are covered with grilles and the cooling flap behind them is removed to be replaced by a detailed PE flap; the gear bays are detailed with ribbing and framework and has brake hoses for the main gear.  The tail wheel has new bay doors folded up from PE to give a more scale effect; and the last few parts are used in detailing the bomb aimer’s window frames, plus add horn-balances to the rudder in the tail.

 

 

Zoom! Set (SS766)

This set contains a reduced subset of the interior, namely the pre-painted parts that are used to improve on the main aspects of the cockpit, as seen above.  Whatever your motivations for wanting this set, it provides a welcome boost to detail, without being concerned with the structural elements.
