JMSDF Sea King S-61A Antarctic Observation mission (Sweet 1/144)

Recommended Posts

Here is my second Sweet 1/144 Sea King - this one is the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) chopper used to support Antarctic missions. Of course like all the Sweet Sea Kings it's the same basic kit (the only difference is you get different radomes and tail rotors depending on whether it's a Sikorsky or Westland version.

These are a great build and lots of fun. This is #2 of five I have in total.

For the green glazing on the cockpit roof windows, I used my kid's brush-tipped marker pen in a suitable shade of green. It works quite well.

I'm building up quite a fleet of 1/144 helicopters - and clearly I like orange...

Rear left is the other Sweet Sea King - a Belgian SAR Westland Mk 48. To the right is the excellent Revell CH-53, and front left is the Anigrand resin Merlin which came with my Nimrod kit.

Time for a better base to pose these 1/144 choppers on...next off the production line is the RAN Westland Mk 50A in the old white over light grey scheme.

Thanks for looking!
