TimJ
The R360 was Mazda's first passenger car. Introduced in 1960 it was a two door, four seat coupe powered by a 356cc engine producing 16hp and giving a top speed of 52mph. trickyrich
Oh wow this is awesome, welcome along Tim. This would have to be one of the smallest cars we've had in any GB. I've never seen one of these cars before, but I love it, would be super fun to have, though a bit scary to drive in Sydney traffic!!!! Good luck with the build, I'll be following this one with interest.
Creepy Pete
Yay! I love those little Arii kits. I've built a few in the past, and I might do another one as well for this GB. Looking forward to this build!
gingerbob
Cool! I have a soft-spot for Mazda owing to their Wankel work, and the RX-7 (original shape) in particular. But that first box art image makes it look like the photo (or at least the car) has been "compressed" along the horizontal axis! I also approve of car kits done in "proper" scales- that is, the ones that are standard for aircraft. bob
TimJ
Before I get started I thought I'd post some clearer pics of what's in the box as they are rather small. Despite its size it is a four searer although the rear seat is probably only suitable for children. DSCF0198 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF3176 by timothy jones, on Flickr As a size comparison here's the body next to a Revell paint pot. DSCF3177 by timothy jones, on Flickr A close inspection of the decals showed that they have some cracks in them so they may be a problem. I do have some liquid decal film so I'll give that a try and see what happens. TimJ
Nearly two months in to this GB so it's time I posted an update. First thing was to remove the moulding lines from the body and give it a coat of primer. DSCF3230 by timothy jones, on Flickr After a couple of days the primer was wet sanded and a couple of coats of Ford Bermuda Light Blue was applied from a Halfords rattlecan as it looks close enough to the pale blue used on the real cars, DSCF3236 by timothy jones, on Flickr The underside got a coat of blue followed by black for the floor and steel on the engine. DSCF3237 by timothy jones, on Flickr The wheels were spayed with chrome paint and the rims had a coat of aluminium, after which the tyres were fitted. They're a bit smaller than those on the Mercedes I'm building in the Matchbox GB. 🙂 DSCF3238 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF3239 by timothy jones, on Flickr More soon.
Lightningboy2000
Sweet little car, more sports car than four seater family car. Looks like the forerunner to the MX-5. Will look great when finished, don't think I've ever seen one of these before. Martin
TimJ
I hadn't seen one before either, that's why I bought it. A bit more progress, the interior has been painted. I used PRU blue on the seats and door panels and dark gray on the floor to simulate the rubber mats in the real car. TimJ
I had planned a couple of entries for this GB but as it' turned out the little Mazda will be my only completion. As mentioned in the first post the decals were cracked but a coat of Microscale decal liquid sorted them out and they went on without any problems, including those on the dashboard. DSCF3439 by timothy jones, on Flickr After the window surrounds were painted and grilles black washed the lights and other small parts were added to the body. DSCF3438 by timothy jones, on Flickr I just need to fit the body to the chassis to finish it off. I'll post some pics in the Gallery tomorrow.

trickyrich
Woohoo she made it!!! I was for a while a carpet monster would make off with her as she's son tiny!!! It's great to see something like this being build, one of the real joys of a GB like this, seeing really unusual builds. I do hope you enjoyed the build and it was awesome to have you along with this wee cutie.
