Mirage IIIEA KINETIC 48th

Recommended Posts

Hi

This will be my build I have stared the build on Monday but have just got around to doing this the 1st bit.

I shall do A/C  I-014 or I-016 as i have photos of them at the time they are from the 2nd batch of Mirage IIIEA so they can have the Magic 1 and Matra 530EM with the 1700lt Tanks for CAP duties over the Islands.

All this started on my birthday back in 1982 i was 24 and in the RAF god how time has flown, and this was about the time i started making Mirages a lot and still at it 40 years later still going strong if the stash in the loft of unmade kits is anything to go by.

I will post more later if i get around to it .

Hi

I made a start last Monday so here is the update on how far i have got.

I have made up the cockpit just the basic i will add detail later. the intakes are made up and fitted to the Fuselage sides i have improved the intake support’s.

The kits parts at lest they put some in there most of the kits have missed this.

My update i used 0.60mm slide fit brass tube the kit rods are 1.2mm so to me well over size.

The real thing.

I have now got the Fuselage sides together i fitted the nose cone to each side as i have found that you can get a big step at the joint if you do it the way they say it's a lot better this way.

Parts ready to be joined.

Parts now together. I have taken the TACAN antenna off the front of the tail as they did not have this fitted.

This is the panel at the rear just above the jet pipe, just got to trim it and add the screw heads its a great way to hide the joint at the rear this is how it is on the real a/c.

spacer.png

The nose section just a small gap to fill and add detail the cockpit. I shall not fit part C39  a antenna to spine top panel as they did not have this fitted.

That how far i have got to now quite fast for me and as this is my only kit i shall be making i hope i shall beat my many ducks and finish this group build.

I have got some parts coming to me for the load so will show you when they get to me in a few days time.

That's all for now.

Hi

A bit more of a update i have been plodding along doing this kit so far got a lot done well for me a lot in the time.

The 1st bit

spacer.png

This is the wings parts the kit comes with hardly any if any Anhedral mind most of their Mirage kits have none so I put some in. I cut 2 slots in the wings along the line of the u/c bay see the small black bits of plastic card that i inserted i use 20 thou card I also cut slots in the 2 bars that are at the wing joint line i did not fill them it just makes it easier to bend the wing the small bit that's needed.

A lot of sanding is needed to get the wing upper and lower parts to mate up without a big step at the leading edge joint.

The tail both sides a bit of filling needed as parts are not the best fit. i have cleaned it up a bit more since.

spacer.png

This nose section was not such a good fit took a lot of lining and cleaning up to get this far, still a bit more to do this is part E4 that is used for the a/c aim doing.

spacer.png

The wing joint takes some time to do this i started at the very rear only sticking a small section then going to the front section getting this bit sorted then the middle sections one side at a time. I took a long time to get this as lined up as much as i could, the intake section is not stuck at this point as did them later.

The intake section partly together, more cleaning up to get ok, a lot of work need to get this to fit.

spacer.png

The under side tail section this was the section i did 1st got to clean up this section still.

spacer.png

Top view one side is glued in place still got the other wing to do.

I shall fill the gap at the wing to fuselage joint with card cut to shape.

I have drilled the top wing lights out.

Coming along will post more when i get time.

Quite enjoying it still a long way to go.

See Ya

Paul
