Black Knight Posted April 5, 2022 Share Posted April 5, 2022 In 1976 the old Airfix modelling magazine did a series of articles on the trains used in the Boer Wars The locomotive engines were 'armoured' with ropes covering them, but with some boiler steel plate on the cabs as well. The tenders were mostly just armoured with boiler plate They were nick-named 'Hairy Mary' engines I built this one years ago. It was built as a 'non-runner' shelf or model show display piece Someday I'll get around to building the various wagons used Underneath is a Dapol 'City of Truro' 4-4-0 Plastic card to make a cow-catcher and extensions to hold the 'boiler plate' armour and the boiler-top head lamp The tender 'Armoured' with plastic card and what one of the real ones looked like 20 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
