VMS Paper Shaper, Rob ?

Is that technical stuff ? ;)

VMS is the company, the product they market is "Paper Shaper" (they do "special paper" that goes with it but this is plain old printer paper).... however it is just acylic Binder so I plan to get a larger bottle of that to see if it works, the concept is great (same stuff I used for the tarp on my Wespe)

Stowage look good Rob, I've heard about the VMS stuff but don't recall seeing it used before,  going off your examples looks pretty handy.

Nice work

more work on stowage... stuck the individual parts together (I hope) added the first of 2 fuel can racks on rear fenders and added the gun tarps (hopefully they will look better once painted) - again all done using acrylic binder (a.k.a. VMS Paper Shaper)

just wondered if acrylic binder could help strengthen paper to make home made stencils... tried with a star (so printed & cut out star then brushed binder over edges)... doesn't lie 100% flat but with sponge you can get something... not sure how sharp these markings should be but sponge application can create faded (don't think it would stand up to air spraying)...

Pritstick your printed out star to a sticky back paper label and cut out again. Thicker and self-adhesive

The stars were for the most part sharp as they were painted through a mask held tight to the surface

replacement tow cable done (thanks all for the tips), finished rear deck stowage completed and tried to do the fighting compartment tarp - not sure if it works or if I need to redo...

Coming on quickly now and looking good.

I guess the acrylic binder worked ok then, tarps are looking good. Did you apply the binder first then fold / lay the paper or fold first then binder?

Thanks

These are still VMS shaped... You soak the paper in the product and them apply it how you want .... Fold/tuck as needed

  • 4 weeks later...

matt varnish on, stowage on, tracks and rubber painted.... hope to get this finished in time (at least finished enough for me... not envisaging a heavily weathered vehicle this time)

That's absolutely brilliant Rob. I love all the stowage. It really gives that 'home from home', lived in look, and the colours look right too.

One small point - is the driver's vision a bit obscured?

that was mentioned elsewhere BUT I have seen photos of the front really heavily loaded like this... maybe not quite as bad but close enough...
