Recommended Posts

  • Reini78 changed the title to Guerre d'Algérie...1/48 De Havilland Vampire Mk.5 , Armée de l’Air

fast progress with the cockpit

the kit comes with two seats, one with molded on seatbelts and one without, if you want to use the included pilot figure or aftermarket belts

the easy times are over...

fit problems with joining upper and lower fuselage halves, had to sand and cut away areas of the side instruments and bulkhead behind the seat

now filling and sanding necessary on the outside of the joints...

Very nice progress  thanks for sharing!!

looking forward to this rare, green/ blue? French scheme!

Thanks!

Yes, upperside green, underside blue-grey. The French used their own paints, exact colour tones aren´t known.

Gonna use RLM76 for the underside and most probably a RLM green for the upperside.

applied some primer to see where still work is necessary

The instructions suggest to add 17g noseweight, but to be sure its better to add more. Not much space in the nose to add weight, so put some weight into the tanks too. My dad already glued one tank together before thinking of that. So he drilled a hole and filled some airgun ammo in the tank and sealed the hole again.

The position light covers for the Mk5 are too large, needed to be sanded down.

When I did a Heller Mistral last year, there were no tail stripes, just the makers marks. Painting by hand was not so hard, all white, mask the middle, one side red, one side blue. A bit of paint mixing to match as best I could, the roundel colours.

This is looking very smart now, well done your Dad. :)

Steve.

Paint is looking good. Shame about the fin decals, maybe a mask and airbrush job would be better?

Masking would have been better and my dad has done a lot and also difficult masking jobs in the past time, but this time he was too lazy....
