Italeri 1/24 Porsche 935/2.0 Baby

Built as the #40 car driven by Jacky Ickx at the Norisring in 1977.  

 

Chose to model this version as there's good reference pictures available from the Porsche museum, however, as it turns out the kit is not al all accurate for #40...  So, the front oil cooler was deleted, the side intakes were substantially modified using plasticard and filler, and a big side exit exhaust pipe was fabricated in lieu of the kits rear pipes..  Did a few extra details that only I will ever know or care about, or even see for that matter!

 

I'm not usually one to go to such lengths of accuracy, but the differences were so glaring that I felt I had to make the changes out of respect for authenticity...  Anyway, not great pics as usual but it looks nice on the shelf next to the other 9354/935s..  Painted it in Tamiya white primer with Mr Hobby gloss clear coat, and another gloss coat over the decals

That's a very smart model.  I hadn't realised how many different variants of the Porsche 935 there were until I built the Matchbox 1:32 model.

Nice build. I've thought of this kit a few times but compensating for it's inaccuracies - as you've done so nicely - put me off.

Thanks for the compliments, it looks better than the pictures show - it's amazing how photos pick up on every little spec of dust and magnify any mistakes.  When I bought it I had no idea it was that inaccurate, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
