I built my resurrected Monogram P-47 in such a scheme - IIRC I used the roundels from an ancient Frog Spitfire XIV which worked pretty well, plus codes and serials from other old Frog decals from the spares box. This GB has been too much fun!!!! This is my third kit in a GB (which is a personal record...), but more importantly (almost) completed. I've laser printed the serial number FL749 on clear decal.
