Thanks for posting these photos. The Porsche museum in Stuttgart looks to be a very interesting place to visit.

I have just started building Tamiya's 1/12 Martini 935 turbo, so the earlier photos in your post will be very useful for reference.

Thank you.

Keith.

Thank you Keith, I’m happy to hear that some of the photos could serve as a reference!

Will you be doing a WIP on your 935 build so that we can follow your work (or maybe you already did and I just missed it)?

Cheers,

Johnny b

Lovely pics of my equal all time favourite car (equal with a Mk1 Escort - chalk and cheese I know. And can't afford either now!) - they show some of the lovely colours Porsche have used over the years too.

Thanks for sharing!

Knowing we share the same passion for the 9:11, I‘m happy you liked the photos Keith.

The Escort Mk1, and for me also Mk2, are by now cult cars! Wonder how many original Mk1 there are still around, most are running on race tracks these days I think. In fact my first two cars were Mk2‘s, the first one being standard, the second one definitely not 😁

Can you still afford a Mk3 in the UK? A friend of mine had a white XR3 back in the days, that was fun car to.

My mother's German stepmother's boyfriend insisted I have a go in his 911 turbo exactly like this, when I was 18.  Compared to my mini 850 it was like hanging on to a rocket.  The most disconcerting thing was the wider rear end around city corners.  And Sigi saying faster, faster as  I discovered 3rd took you near 100 on the A38 out of Plymouth before i had any idea what was going on and I knew Devon Constabulary would throw away the cell keys!

A short but memorable drive even if it was 40 years ago...

I guess Sigi was pretty relaxed about risking his life and car with me that day, since when he was a young man other young men were dying around him or trying to kill him in the East.

Not really, they're fetching daft prices too (saw an RS Turbo advertised for £35K this week) and tbh I'd rather have a Mk2 Fiesta XR2 which was one of only two cars I had brand new - but a good one of those is now over £20K (I paid about £6K for a new one! 🤣 )

There's a lovely original Mk1 RS1600 on auction on the Car and Classic website - it has over 4 days to go and is currently bid to £61,000 - and the reserve isn't met...!!

The build is in the very early stages at the moment, I am sorting out all of the body work ready for painting.

I'll post some photo's when I have something to show.

Does the Porsche museum have a version of the 935 that Tamiya modelled?

Keith.

Thanks for sharing your story @malpaso!

My own first 9:11 story took place a bit north of Frankfurt, where I was stationed by my an old company in the mid 90‘s. A good friend of mine from Denmark called me in the morning on my birthday, which also happens to be his birthday, to congratulate me/him on the day. As he told me that he had just bought a used 911 from 1972, I asked him why he didn’t come down to Frankfurt so we could celebrate the day together. So he did and some 10 hours later he parked in front of my apartment.

The next day we took the 911 for a blast through the Taunus Mountains and though the power of my friends 911 would have been no where the same as what you experienced in Sigi‘s Turbo, I do recall the somewhat scary feeling of discovering that the tail of the car wasn‘t always exactly where you would have hoped it to be 😁

Unfortunately he had to sell the 911 at some point as it was in need of a full restoration, but he stayed loyal to the Porsche brand and today his driving a 968 and the wife got a Cayenne Turbo.

It‘s horrendous, isn‘t it! Well at least we both have our hands full maintaining and driving the classics we got (how many Mini‘s you have?), as we speak, I should actually be down in the underground parking fixing the Fiat 500 but the weather is just to good again 🤣

Looking forward to following your progress.

EDIT Looking at the black Carrera GT you posted earlier today, I can definitely learn a thing or two from you !!

I am not sure how many 935 the museum have in their collection, but once I‘m done sorting all of my old car pictures (in progress), I shall have a look through all the pictures from the museum to see what I have.

Only the one - stage rally prepared 1275GT owned with my son. But it's been sat in the garage for years as health issues mean I can't do much on it at the moment and my son has a very young family so not much spare time! We're hoping to try and get it back on the road this summer.

I did have 6 or 7 Mk1 & 2 Escorts back in the day - when they were actually cheap! :)

Hope you’re getting better soon and that you can get the little one out of the garage this summer :)

Keith, I had a look through the 935 photos from the museum, but unfortunately I couldn't find any of the specific Tamiya 935 version, sorry.

Cheers,
