MikeR-G
I am new to Britmodeller, I used to build Airfix 1:72 scale military vehicles and aircraft as an 11/12 year old, over 45 years ago, using squirty glue tubes, paint brush and humbrol tinlets. They normally ended up being launched out the window with lighter fluid on fire, or set up in the garden and shot at with my air rifle with telescopic sight, pretending to be a sniper - I was always destined to have a career in the Army! I was in the Hereford Model Centre last year reminiscing about those days and I saw the Hawker Typhoon 1:24 scale model and got the urge to build it, so armed with the kit and all the paints and modelling tools, a compressor and airbrush I was ready to go - thinking all the gear no idea how to properly build a detailed model. It is a real beast, this is my first go at building one fully, learning to use an airbrush and apply weathering techniques etc. I eventually got round to starting it about 5 weeks ago. The detail of this kit is amazing, these are some shots of the build so far. It is now fully assembled with gloss varnish and decals applied. I need to seal in the decals with a coat of gloss varnish and get to grips with external weathering and chipping techniques before finishing with a matt varnish coat. I have made several mistakes along the way and it is not as perfect as I would like, but I am pretty pleased with the results so far. Any comments and tips welcomed. perdu
A good advert for the Tiffie, niceley presented. Ah yes, welcome to the Mardi Gras, good to have you with us. That looks a great model, funny enough my route back into modelling after aeons away from the glue was a car-door Typhoon courtesy of the venerable Frog Typhoon in 1/72 which I built as a car-door Bombphoon.
