Monogram, Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat. 1/72.

Recommended Posts

I can't remember if I put this on the forum before but here we are! I made this not long after I'd started making models.

This was a delight to build, and to paint! Came up looking beautiful. I replaced the 'plastic sticks' that were meant to be machine guns and cannons, they didnt fit right or look right so I made them with lengths of sewing pins. The kit was hard to find a for a while and I got this at a great price. Painted all over with Hannants Extracolour glossy sea blue and used Starfighter decals because the originals were unusable. I painted the heat areas at the engine exhausts with Humbrol polished steel.

I was gonna matt it down but in the end I left it the way it is as it looks magnifico!

good to see a Tigercat - one of my favourite warbirds. Nice one!

Cheers,

Michael

Thank you; its a cracker of a model; I wanted one because it was an aircraft that was fitted with the P & W R-2800 Double Wasp engines; it would have been a formidable fighter!

Cheers Chris, it was a delight to build, one of those models that the wings and tail thread through the fuselage before the fuselage is closed over, was a dream to paint too even though I wasn’t priming at the time. Monogram say that if the builder is careful then the model won’t need to be painted and moulded it with dark bloo plastic!
I watched a YouTube video featuring the Tigercat, Hellcat and the Bearcat all flying together; turned up the volume to hear those Double Wasp engines ROAR!

That is superb!  The Tigercat is such a great looking aircraft and you really did a terrific job on this one.

Thank you, I knew that people would like this one, I certainly do! It looks the best in gloss!👍 we didn’t see it fight because it was just too late for WW2, I think they may have been used in Korea.

thanks guys.🙂

I do have it as an RC model - 1700mm wingspan - looks so good on the air

1700! it must be pretty large! Its fuselage is longer than its wingspan, I'd be scared to fly it in case I crashed it!:yikes:

There's a video in YouTube of the Hellcat, the Tigercat and the Bearcat all flying together, its excellent!👍 All those Double Wasp engines roaring!

yes, its indeed quite large. The bigger they are the easier they are to fly usually. yeah, the Grumman cats are indeed impressive birds - some of the fastest piston engined planes.
