I have been busy on this so I'll get straight on with the photos. First off, I got a lot of the plastic and PE parts attached to the upper hull peice: Same with the turret: Replacement barrel assembled and fitted: Some additions to the hatches that will be open: A few test fit photos: You'll notice the periscope guards were not fitted on the turret at this stage. Because the turret is smaller, I felt there was more chance I'd damage them while doing other stuff on the turret. Then, once the turret periscope guards had been fitted, I got some paint on. Thinned, with water, Humbrol 252 matt Olivegrun, applied with a medium flat brush: Some of the other parts were given a couple of coats of thinned Revell's Anthracite. Once the paint had fully dried, I started work on my base weathering - I got a very, very thinned wash of acrylic Gunship Grey (from Revell) applied over all the previously painted parts. I applied this with a medium soft round brush. Once dry I used a fine pointed brush to apply a very, very thinned wash of Revell's acrylic Anthracite in and around all the details. I use water to thin all my paints. Once this was dry, I dry-brushed everything with a lighter version of the base coat (Humbrol's acrylic Matt Olivegrun) using a soft, medium flat brush: Next I will get the decals applied before I do more weathering. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

IanC
Great progress Stix with some nice extra details, especially those periscope and light guards. And I do like the mud effect on the hull. Ian

PlaStix
Hi @Longbow, @Matt B, @planecrazee, @IanC, @Corsairfoxfouruncle and @Jasper dog. Thank you to you all for your very kind comments. Done a fair bit on this over the long weekend including getting the decals added before finishing the weathering and getting the basic parts all glued in place. Some mud was added here and there and a few worn areas painted/weathered. The basic Firefly is now complete: I've actually enjoyed getting it to this stage. Crew and stowage will be next and, with them in place, I will think about any final weathering that might need adding. Then I'll think about a display base and some infantry figures to go on it. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

Jasper dog
Brilliant, just brilliant! Wonderful mastery of the paintbrush, not just the Firefly itself but the wood effect for the tool handles and the weathering effects. Superb modelling. SleeperService
That's coming along very well Stix is there no limit to your talents?? It looks like Tamiya have altered the upper hull piece to get the roof plate arrangement better. My very early purchase is wrong and quite different to yours. Very nice work and flawless paintwork too.
PlaStix
Hi @Longbow, @Steben, @Corsairfoxfouruncle, @edjbartos, @bigfoot, @Retired Bob, @Jasper dog & @SleeperService. Thank you very much all, for your very kind comments. On 22/04/2022 at 18:30, SleeperService said: is there no limit to your talents?? Many limits and surprisingly varied unfortunately!! Following getting the basic Firefly finished last time, I decided to start work on the stowage. Following some cleaning up of seam lines, they were all brush painted with thinned Revell’s Anthracite: I decided not to use all the items from the set as I felt it may look too cluttered. Painting mostly completed - all thinned paints applied with a very fine pointed brush - then given washes and dry-brushing: Some detail painting was done once they were in place. Speaking of which - all glued in place, detailed bits finished and thread used to represent the rope: Unfortunately the light quality wasn’t great when I tried to take these, yesterday evening, but they'll give an impression of what it looks like at the moment. Next up - I'll start work on the figures. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

Thank you - and, as I mentioned to Ed, hopefully the photos are below of the figures. I did a bit more tidying up on the tank and stowage over the past few days and added touches of weathering here and there: Then I decided to make a start on the figures. To be honest, I hadn't really looked closely at them until now and, I have to say, I was a little disappointed by them. The are not as good as other 1/48 figures I have used from the Tamiya range in the past. But I wasn't going to try and find any replacements now, They'll have to do. To me, they are not particularly well formed in places and the detail is a little soft. Anyway, mostly glued together: Undercoat of thinned Revell's Anthracite: Before getting them fully painted and assembled: Plus a 5 pence coin for reference as to how small they seem: And then the two tank crew figures I'm using, fitted in place: I have also made a bit of a start on the base: Filler and scenics on the base will be next. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

Retired Bob
Your Firefly is looking really good Stix, and the figures show how small they are in 1/48th. I have a Firefly 1c that I have assembled in 1/35th from a Dragon M4 and a spare 17 pounder converted turret, the one with the thickened cheek armour and no empty shell port. I only have 1 clear photo from the IWM site of this type of Firefly, but the censor obliterated the regimental markings on the negative. It was more than 25% started so I could not enter it in this GB but I'm dragging it towards being completed along with my dozer bladed Sherman.
