Saturn V, LUT, Crawler 1/144

Recommended Posts

Over the last couple years I made an Educraft LUT, Crawler and an Airfix Saturn V.

Took AGES!

I think I must now be a black belt at origami!

When I figure out how to add pic's I'll follow up this topic.

I remember those days well, but I couldn't tell you what LUT stands for. Launch [unknown] Tower?

Launch Umbilical Tower. The Saturn V LUT had eight umbilical/service arms, which provided access to various levels of the stack, and umbilical connections for stuff like fuel and electrics which were being supplied from the tower during the pre-launch phase. There was also a ninth arm providing access to the Command Module. They all swung free during the last ten seconds of launch. Then the Saturn V did a very alarming yaw manoeuvre during the first few seconds of take-off, designed to move it away from the LUT in case there had been a problem with any of the arms.
