And, forgive my tediousness, the photo shows that the RIB engine is not a Yamaha, but a Suzuki.

Perhaps this is not essential, and it is no longer worth repainting the motor. :)

In situation.

I would place it on the starboard side, I usually display my ships on the port side. On the port side, there will be the speedboat, more visually interesting.

I have started the design of the Colombo launch. I don't have a lot of info about the plan, fortunately there are pictures!

Yes, I knew, but I prefer Yamaha.  More expensive but more robust! 😍

I absolutely agree. In outboard motors, I also choose Honda and Yamaha. 🤝

The hull is finished.

Now I'm going to work on the Z-drive base. I chose a Volvo Aquamatic 280 duo-prop (two counter-rotating propellers).

A base that I know well, I had two launches that were equipped with this base and the indestructible AQAD41 200hp 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine. I maintained them myself.

This runabout is a fairly recent model, in the neo-retro style but made of polyester, so easier to maintain, less heavy than a wooden launch like a Riva probably (and probably cheaper too). Top speed 38 knots.

For example this one was built in 2000:

https://www.botentekoop.com/fr/bateau/2000-colombo-24-super-indios-xl-7937634/

The Dodge's (father Horace and Delphine, his daughter) were passionate about fast motorboat racing (Runabout). The Delphine among its many tenders over the years had quite a few speedboats.

"A runabout boat is a runabout - sea roadster type of motorboat, for boating, water skiing or boat racing..."

Wiki.

I think this Colombo is on board for the nod to the history of the vessel and its first owner.

Extract of photos from the very nice book of the Delphine that I have just acquired, this book is very complete, great work of the author, it is a great help to me:

This boat is finished as well as its Z-drive duo-prop base, I will be able to continue the ship.

Quick integration, I have the bers to do, it's not long.

Then I move on to the chain stoppers, which are very special on this ship. I found a partial picture in the Delphine book.

Photo taken in Belgium during its major restoration in 2000.

This is the only photo I have found so far showing the stoppers. They are very particular, it is for my part the first time I see them of this type.

Mechanically one can think that they are equipped with a chain tension damper. There are two probable reasons for this, they prevent too much tension on the chain when there is wind or sea or both. It can prevent the anchor from slipping on the bottom for the same reason if the vessel tends to gyrate on its mooring point, normally the weight of the chain is sufficient if enough links are set.

The general rule is at least 3 times the height of the water if the weather is good and the bottom has a good hold. It is important to remember that the length of chain in the water accounts for 50% of the anchor weight, the other 50% being the anchor weight.

It remains a very complicated system and difficult to maintain because of the salty environment. This ship was built on the Great Lakes, this system was perhaps more suitable for this fresh water environment. A guess.

Behind the stopper, two arms can be seen, probably to reinforce the system, and distribute the effort on the deck.

Delphine VI réplica, superbe !

More here: https://newenglandboatandmotor.com/delphine-vi

Quote

DELPHINE VI is one of the most famous and beautiful of Horace Dodge’s racers. She was designed by George Crouch in 1925 when she was built as IMPSHI for Dodge to race in the Gold Cup Championship. She raced many years under various names and she carried all of the great racing engines that money could buy.

Packard powered the first year. In 1926 and 1927 she was powered with a 24 cylinder Duesenberg built from 3 Indianapolis straight-8 racing engines. She was retired for a couple years and then in 1932, she was pulled from storage, spruced up and re-powered with a Harry Miller V16 created with 4 Indy engine blocks on a common crankcase.

She was extremely fast and clocked speeds in excess of 70MPH. Driven by Frietoff Erickson. She went on the race under the name HORNET in 1934 when she was wrecked as she ran into a battleship. Dodge gathered up her shattered bones and shipped her back to Detroit and rebuilt her, rechristening her as his beloved IMPSHI in 1936.

This historic reconstruction was built from original plans and faithfully brings DELPHINE VI back to life. She has been completed up to a point where she is now ready for wiring and engine installation. Power is a brand new Marine Power 500hp 502 V8. DELPHINE VI is anxiously awaiting a new owner. This is a great value at $200,000.

Drawing of the anti-roll keels. of the wooden battens of the main deck. Front drafts.

I prepared the first 237 mm long front section for printing. It's on its way, 12 hours 40 minutes of printing. Result tomorrow.

Must be both exciting and daunting when your waiting for the first print...

Stuart

Always! 😍 A real reward for the hours spent drawing.

The printing went well, I have a few minor things to fix, nothing serious.

I have a lack of material on a hull plate that I can't really explain, it comes from the digital transfer between fusion and chitubox. It can be repaired with very little filler.

I have a small problem on the starboard bulwark of the forecastle, not the port one, the supports were arranged identically, one support may have broken, they are so high. I have a problem on the water drain scuppers, a small continuity bracket was missing.

All this is easily repairable.

So I reviewed the supports in my Chitubox trenching file, as I decided not to let anything go, I started another print. But the first one is quite usable.

You can't get much higher with this Mono X 4K printer. It's very large.

The new Photon M3 Max is 5,5 cm higher with a better resolution.

Otherwise this Photon Mono X 4K is still very pleasant to use, I also like its fineness of execution even at 50 microns, its regularity of operation, a Chinese Swiss clock, you fill the resin tray, you press print and basta!

Comparison at the same scale 1:100 between the 40 meter Hydrograaf and the 79 meter Delphine, thus double.

It's running full ahead!

See you tomorrow morning.

Section #3 is ready to turn into the real thing. It's waiting its turn.

The final section #4 is ready, I added some details, it will be less long ( 115 mm ) to print.

Screenshot-2022-04-26-15-35-44-813.jpg

I did a test assembly with the first section 1 and section 2. It's almost perfect. Nothing is glued.

You can see on the first photo of section 1, the defect on the starboard forecastle bulwark, defect erased on the second print of section 1 on which I have not yet removed the brackets.

Tks David, Ian & followers! 👍

Printed the speedboat of his Volvo duo-prop with the Photon Ultra DLP, the camera doesn't follow, sorry.

The mesh of my jeans gives the scale, the lift cylinder rods even printed..

The windscreen of the speedboat will be printed in transparent resin tomorrow.

The speedboat is not to be outdone, the most difficult details have been printed, steering wheel, flagpole, front lifting hook. It's amazing. I will take more pictures tomorrow.

The front axle also printed well on the Mono X, a big piece. It fits in well.

Section No. 4, the supports are still in place. And they're going to stay there, scrap, forgot to draw the rear drafts

EMBARRASSED_Doh_1.gif .

It will be reprinted tonight. Can't wait for the holidays. :)

I didn't make too much progress, the weather is good, let's enjoy it! jkamtt0.gif

I still managed to glue the 4 sections for a total of 80 cm long, it makes a nice Delphine.

I printed the front fittings, the foredeck, anchors, rudder, doors etc.

I still have a bit of putty (Cyano + accelerator spray) to put on, very little, and a bit of sanding, for the joins of the sections. You need to spend some time on this part of the assembly, it's important.

Tks mates!

Back from 17 days of dream vacation on the island of Corsica, I'm back full of energy for the second season of the SS Delphine creation.

DD2-A55-F2-5937-4557-849-E-B1020753-D085

I printed almost all the accessories of the front of the ship with the Photon Ultra printer, I must say that the printing quality is amazing with this little jewel of technology. I now print all my small parts with it, I'm addicted.

This machine is still not on sale at Anycubic, it remains a DLP prototype made in few copies (Crowfounding).

We can think that this is the future of low cost printing compared to LCD screens.

I note now with this one that I can easily make recesses like doors, the dimensions of a door for example are very close to those of the drawing, it is really good. Because with LCD screens it's really complicated.

It's of course easier to paint a door correctly when it's a piece in its own right.

Pascal, if I was in Corsica for 17 days I doubt if I would come back! The only reason the parts printed out so well, is your attention to the detail in the drawing of the parts. Very well done!!
