LorenSharp
While waiting for pieces to dry on my Frogfoot, I'm going to throw cation to the wind and start another project for this build. And since I'm in Soviet bloc mode might as well start Monogram's 1/48 Mil-24 Hind D I know I'll have to do some modifications and corrections but hopefully it won't be too hateful
LorenSharp
Well I got started on this and things were going along rather well with doing the cockpit. Then I stepped back after getting it all spiffyifed and noticed... This don't look quite right. The Soviets put Barcoloungers in their choppers? And they say the West is spoiled. Looked at some interior images and said to myself. "Self, theseĀ will have to go., [/url Time to break out the dremel and begin some surgery. First off get rid of those over stuffed couches they call seats and clear off some of the side walls. Ā
LorenSharp
I had some spare resin seats from a certain big wing that I may get back to one of these years, So I shaved the sides down took some spare rod and sheet to make new cushions. Then some thin card to make new floor and backs along with some new panels. Ā
LorenSharp
I let those dry then did a new paint job.Ā Weathered black for most of the interior. I switched out the Mig-Ammo Interior turquoise green which was too dark and substituted MM Fulcrum interior green which though still dark is closer in shading. The circuit breaker panels and other controls I dobbed bits of aluminum, red and light gray for various switches and used aluminum dry brushed on the dials. Then used masking tape for the belts. LorenSharp
That completed I moved on to the cargo/passenger area. I used flanker gray green for the interion and once dried clear coatedĀ with lacquer and applied a dark wash to bring out the details. All glued together for a nice neat little box. I used masking tape again for the belts. Ā
LorenSharp
interior colours, weathered black for the front gray green for the back. Added the interior walls. and some switch and knob panels to the front.
LorenSharp
Next the base of the rotor assembly. I gave everything a coat of gloss black lacquer then various shade of Alclad stainless steel, aluminum, and dark aluminum. followed by more dak wash, For the exhaust I noticed in a few images some sort of piping that I took for cooling the heat signature? Then gave everything a coat of MM burnt metal. Its hard to see the additions because of the lighting.
LorenSharp
Time to put it all together. Ā
LorenSharp
I'm going to have to do some seam filling. [ Unlike my other build, I should have masked off the seams before filling with glazing compound. I would have made less of a mess and less damage to the exterior detail. But once that was all sanded down I gave the seams a coat od aluminum to see where I needed more work. Ā
LorenSharp
[/url A little bit extra filling and added the winglets I masked off the canopy filled in the joins and gave it all a coat of weathered black for the interior frames Ā
LorenSharp
And thats the crop so far. All this is about 2 weeks of work in between spring cleaning, outside doing yard work when it was warm. Not today though, Snow coming down at a furious pace and winds plowing through around 50kph and a nice balmy -3 c. Hopefully tomorrow I can start painting the exterior of both this and my Frogfoot, So until next time guys , Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep on modelling!

Col.
Good work on this one so far Loren. The interior is looking much better than what Monogram started with.
81-er
Really nice work there, the updates to the cockpit especially. I'm rather partial to saying I'm having a CRAFT moment, rather than senility. That's Can't Remember A Flaming* ThingĀ š¤£ Ā James Ā *This is usually an alternative word beinging with "F", however this is a family-friendly siteĀ
LorenSharp
Thanks James, Overall the model wasn't too badly off as far as accuracy was concerned. The cockpits just needed a little reworking to look "proper" If that's all I have to do with this as far as "extra-curricular" activities go, I'll accept that with a smile. LorenSharp
Having gotten all the seams as best I can time to add some paint. After giving the exterior a panel line undercoat( which I forgot to take a picture of) I gave the upper surfaces a light coat of TamiyaĀ XF-60 Dark Yellow. My light tans were all a little too "fleashy coloured for look I wanted. thenĀ for the green camoĀ Tamiya's XF61 Dark Green. The undersides I used Mig-Ammo's Air Superiority Blue. The I gave it a fine misting ofĀ MM Light Gull Gray. Once this dried a good coat of Clear Gloss Lacquer. Now I can start weathering the panel lines. This will also help when the time comes to add the decals. The set that came with the kit is real old may give me some issues .

LorenSharp
Ā This build hasn't had much in the way of issues as some I've done recently It's kinda refreshing for once.
PeterB
Hi Lauren, Ā Looking good so far. 30 or so years back I bought the Hasegawa 1/72 kit and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had provided "drooping" rotor blades which seem like a good idea according to pics of the Hind at rest. In the sprue shot yours look straight - if so, are you thinking of modifying them?Ā
LorenSharp
They look to have seem to have some droop, But I've got the paint drying on them at the moment so, once they're dry I'll have to compare with my refences to see how much, if any , modification is necessary. Cross fingers 30 secs in hot water if I need to.
LorenSharp
Now almost to the end. The kit didn't have a shaft for the tail rotor, so I used some brass rod that was just perfect. Added the landing gear Though blurry, the nose cannon and the wing ordinance. Ā
