I grew up about a mile from its location and never knew it existed. Apparently, it was an "advanced landing ground" and both the Canadians and the Americans flew out of it in 1944. Having had a look about (what did we do before the interweb-thingy), I think that the P51bs may have been based at Staplehurst (382nd fighter squadron).
