S-boat 55
Hi all, Quick question if I may. I'm having difficulty trying to find information on the colours used by the Japanese navy for antifouling paint. From what I can see it's one of two shades, one being quite a bright red (akin humbrol 60) the other almost a plum red. Is anyone able to share which shipyards used which colour? I ought to get a bit of paint on my Taiho build soon as flipping her over will be problematic before long so could do with tying down what she likely would have worn, thanks Sam Edited March 7, 2022 by S-boat
Dave Swindell
It's common practice to alternate between 2 paint colours for antifouling paint layers. This aids getting an even paint film thickness for each layer, and more importantly gives a good indication of underwater hull condition. The colour changes as the paint wears away to reveal the different colour of the layer underneath shows how fast and how far the paint layers are wearing back.
