1/72 Su-27 kit recommendation needed

Could someone tell me what 1/72 kit would be best for recreating the Ukrainian Su-27 no.58 and what additions/modifications it would require (decals and camo aside)? I`ve seen someone here apparently combining elements from two kits to make this one and I`m wondering if he was restricted by what he had or if indeed, there is no straight out of the box option. Thank you!

Thank you! I was not aware ICM has one with Ukrainian decal options. Hasegawa had a box(02166) for the digital camo too, but both seem hard to find now though. Failing these, the Trumpeter Flanker B would be ok, right?

https://www.super-hobby.ro/products/Russian-Su-27-Flanker-B-Fighter.html

The build I was refering to above is this (pictures are not appearing here no BM so I found it on another forum):

http://www.cartula.ro/forum/topic/9911-ce-am-mai-facut-si-eu/page__st__100__p__236914#entry236914

Can`t figure out why that kit bashing was necessary. I was thinking that maybe because the Ukraining aircraft was upgraded, but maybe it`s because he started with a Su-27SM as a base?

I think I am in the fortunate position to answer my own questions:

- the Trumpeter kit is perfectly fine for a Ukrainian Su-27. Ken made a very nice one out of it:

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234961613-flankeris-digitalis-su-27-in-digital-camouflage/

If only those Authentic Decals woud still be available..

- the reason of that kit combination I`ve exemplified above is the differences between the standard Su-27 and Su-27SM, which is well explained by Flankerman here:

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235022010-172-su-24-su-2733/&do=findComment&comment=2754946

Basically, if you start with a Su-27SM kit and want to make a standard Su-27, it`s easier to use some parts from a UB instead of scratch building them yourself.

ICM seems to be the way whilst they are still available, I have to go to my local today for paint, any reason aside from the ICM excellence to leave the Airfix SU-27 they have on the shelf?

My understanding is that the ICM kit is based on the Airfix one with some more detail added in some areas and a number of improvements (new clear parts and others) Depending on what you're interested in in a kit, you may be happy with the Airfix one or not... Neither seems to be a shake-and-bake kit, the Airfix kit was notorious in its days for the bad fit and the ICM one seems to be even worse.

In general the best Su-27 in 1/72 scale today is the Zvezda SM (also reboxed by Revell) but this represents a different variant. the Trumpeter kit would be second best and can be used to build an Ukrainian machine

Fit is something that is important, so cooled on both of those, also under the impression though no idea where from that the Trumpeter kit has a too shallow a canopy?

From what I can recall the Trumpeter kit goes together decently enough. Foxbot also has decals and painting masks for the digital flankers that worked very well for me, #58 seems to be one of the options. Hopefully it'll also still be available considering, well, things.

Looks like the foxbat stuff is sadly sold out, and as it turns out is the begemot decals I wanted to use :( so going to have to abandon my plans for an su-27, and see if the ICM mig-29 is still available or failing that the trumpeter kit.....

If you don't mind going the decal route rather than masks (should be easier but likely won't look as good), another option is this from Taiwanese company DXM Decals, printed by Cartograf no less.

Not a company I'd heard of until a few days ago when I was researching modelling Ukrainian digital camo, I couldn't see any for sale from a UK seller so took a chance on ordering a set directly from them.

DXM has been around for a while, they offer a wide selection of decals for JASDF and USN aircraft (many for the Tomcat). I have yet to use any of their decals but reviews all sound good

I've also taken that chance :) Now back to the kit, hopefully someone gets the trumpy kit back in stock on amazon, got a healthy voucher balance to use up.

I'm hopeful they'll be decent, I couldn't find a huge amount of comments or reviews about them online but what I did find was generally very positive.

Turns out 3rd party sellers had both boxings in stock, just I was incompetent for the early boxing and the other wouldn’t show via the search, fyi the two kits only differ in the fin sprues and the decals Ian and I have purchased are for the variant in the later boxing which I’ve also now ordered. :)
