1:72 Fujimi McDonnell Douglas FG.1 Phantom A&AEE

Recommended Posts

Easily the best looking Fujimi Fg-1 I've ever seen- superb build, finish and presentation.  For info, the modified Radome contained a highly accurate Decca  "Doppler 72" Radar set that provided calibrated Ground Speed data during XT597's career as a high speed chase aircraft.

Thanks so much for sharing this amazing build.

Vivacious.

Ah, an appropriate adjective for XT597, as she is a real head-turner.

Utterly delicious! A stunner as always.

And delicious too! However, having smelled Mr. Color I'm not sure I want to taste it!    :banghead:  Alcock & Brown is queued up for sometime this year.

Thanks for the explanation, I never was able to find that out in my Internet searches. Was this radar made by the same Decca that made my grandmother's old 78 rpm records?

I'm not a great fan of the Phantom (que much abuse), but I am a fan of really good models. Yours is really, really nice.

Oh, I don't believe in abusing fellow modellers. Especially when they are complimentary!

That is a bit of alright!

Quite inspirational. Really like the Phantom. Bit scared by all the stencils though. This one looks the business. Great job.

Thanks! Stencils are just like the other stickers, only smaller. And there is a heck of a lot more of them. Interestingly enough, most of the stencils on the Xtradecal sheet are readable with a magnifier. Pretty good for 1:72 scale.   :)

Cheers,

Bill

Yes! 🙂  Decca got involved in Avionics before WW2 and their "Decca Navigator" Global Hyperbolic Navigation system was in use up to the year 2000.  They got bought up by Racal and have faded from the sector. The Decca Doppler 72 set was installed the Avro Vulcan in the 1970's as a replacement for "Green Satin" Doppler Nav. Radar.

That's eye-catching, and also very well done. Same goes for the other two. They must make a very impressive display together.

Thanks! The plan is for an entire brood of Phancy Phantoms. What I have so far makes a nice little collection in the display case.

Amazing. Hyperbolic navigation systems - the old conic section focii trick?     :)

The more experience I slowly build up in this hobby, especially as a loyal 1/72 exponent(!), the more I appreciate just how much skill and love goes into a build like this! Phantastic!

Oh man, that is a real beauty Bill!

Thanks Cookie. I hope someday this aircraft is fully restored to these markings and prominently displayed in a museum. Or better yet - flying!    :)

very nice, I really do like that scheme

Thanks mates. I really love the Raspberry Ripple scheme as well. When you look at all the different aircraft that have worn it over the years, there is a surprising amount of variations and detail differences. Very cool.

So, which one of our zealous Britmodellers has a list of all aircraft ever painted in a Raspberry Ripple scheme? Surely one of our inspired members have collated such a list. I mean, why wouldn't you?   :)

Cheers,

Bill
