Airfix 1:130 Cutty Sark

Gday my BM mates... Something totally new that I haven't tried before - an old tall ship, the Cutty Sark.

I purchased this for my Father in Law some time back when he retired but over the years his eyesight and fine hand skills were going so I offered to make it for him.

I learnt a whole lot of new skills, especially rigging and sails but I must say, it was the most tedious part of the build and took many hours. I kind of settled with where I got as I was starting to question how long I was actually prepared to play with string for !!

Hope you like the build.

Cheers

JJ

Used up all the string (80m) right at the end.... Lucky I kept the off-cuts !!

And finally - the sails.....

Gidday JJ, she's a beautiful ship and you've done a great model of her. I've had a monogram kit of this ship in the stash for about 40 years - your model inspires me to have a go at it - or at least take it out and have another look at it. 😁

     Regards, Jeff.

Well done. I have one in the stash too, for nostalgia as I threw one together in my youth. Like you, the rigging seems daunting 🥴

Maybe one day I'll find the courage and hope it comes out half as well as yours :goodjob:

Ahoy! And other comedy sailing greetings. I love what you have done with this kit. She looks to be OOB and I’m super happy to see the plastic sails look so good and in scale. 🥰 I’m looking to build my Victory soon and I’ll use your thread as a nice reference guide. Thanks for sharing. Lots of photos that I like. 🤩 Excelent finish in the RFI too. 👏👏👏👏👏

Ahoy!

Thanks mate, was surprisingly a fun kit. Only thing was it only had one little signal cannon so I have some cannon envy brewing at Victory's 104 cannons ! After my build I thought if I were to make another it would be a big ship so looking forward to your build as it will probably kick me into action to build another...... Though....... I'm not keen of following behind you......
