Thursday 24th February 2022, a dark day. Ukraine (Ukrainian: Україна) is a country in Eastern Europe. It is currently at war with Russia. There was already one close squeak that was avoided by cool heads. I hate having to enforce this rule because of the inequity of the situation, but we have to, as there is enough hitting the fan without us all falling out about it. Rest assured that as individuals your Mods are concerned for the people of Ukraine, and wish them all the best, hoping that they all stay safe. I've been watching videos of what's occurring today, and it's a horrible state to find yourself in. To all our members, model companies and everyone else that's currently under threat from bombardment, attack or whatever else is going on. We're thinking of you and wish things were different. Once I unlock this topic, anyone wishing to leave a note of support or information regarding the companies themselves may do so, but please leave the politics and name-calling out of it. Russian model kit manufacturers like Zvezda will also be greaty affected with the sanctions - banning trade/payments in Euro and USD and other currencies, Russian banks being blocked, the Russian currency the Ruble has plummeted in value as well which wil affect their production costs - Zvezda for example may not be able to sell their product under the sanctions or future sanctions to nations that have imposed those sanctions; 2. Fuel prices are going through the roof - so shipping costs will skyrocket worlwide; 3. Inflation will spike upwards as a knock on effect from the cost of rising fuel and energy prices so the kit manufacturers worldwide will increase prices. ICM and other Ukrainian manufacteres were coming out with some excellent new tool kits as well as the Russian maunufacturer Zvezda. Who knows what will happen with these companies, whether they will go broke or cease to exist in future, not to mention the rise in costs for other kit models such as Airfix and Revell which will surely follow... Absolute disaster, and such a waste of human life on all sides, Ukrainians, Russians and anyone caught in the crossfire. For modellers worldwide - buy thsoe kits on your list now as prices will only increase and some models will no longer be available at all, unless you want to pay extorsion prices on Evilbay etc... Not to forget reboxes from different brands. Revell released (and announced) some ICM kits for example. From my understanding they buy the sprues and have no access to the moulds.
