Thanks, noted and agreed.

I might extend that warning to Molotow if it were not for hundreds of impassioned endorsements from many people I admire.

Damn nose! 😞

every time I have to coated the molotow stuff it has reacted. Not as bad as what you’re showing but deffo lost its lustre. As @giemme mentioned earlier I think, I do only use it for little bits and from the pen.

But I’m more reluctant to top coat after your experiences.
I did some tests to see what effect top coat had on different paints. All Vallejo but I used Dull Aluminium, Duraluminium and chrome. As you can see on this test with a top coat of Airbrushed thinned Tamiya X-22 closest and TS-13 furthest (can’t remember what the middle test was ) they all end up almost the same.

52116859405_ea10157f26_b.jpg

all lost the “super shiny” and some became “less dull” but over all it was a good enough test. I’m still yet to find a top coat that keeps that crisp chrome look. I might do more tests? I do tend to use Tamiya smoke to post shade too, that knocks the whole lot back but the gloss coat brings everything into a middle register. The nose you had I thought looked good. But I think that super shine with a top coat is still elusive. For me and thee both.

dust off, Onward and upwards dear Bill.

 Jont.

fwiw the nose on my demon ended up less shiny than I would have liked. Maybe bare metal foil for small bits next time?

ps. Excuse the bits of fluff in the paint above. I was not in ze booth. 🤪

All of the samples look pretty fine to me but I am a big proponent of Bare Metal Foil.  Aside from really tight compound curves it's not that difficult to apply and you can realise a finish anywhere between shiny chrome to flat corroded duralumin with careful sanding or polishing plus finish coats.  But you probably know this already so I'll stop the wittering...

After dumping alclad (except for the metal finishes) I have moved to Mr. Hobby?Color/Pigment Clear and Super Clear (Crystal Clear?) and found it to be as good as the Alclad Aqua Clear and a lot more durable

Should I buy Bare metal Foil now?

Hannants out of stock. Ordered on the Bay!

The test looks pretty conclusive, thanks Johnny.

BMF has landed, Molotow reserved for infilling jobs as required.

Once again the new window panels installed and I am about to take this outside for application of Tamiya Flat varnish so that Vallejo Aluminum takes to its skin without falling off it.

B80-CAEBC-E40-E-4-BAC-B892-680-C25-F093-My go to for shiny is actually LIDL rattlecan sliver.

86-AB68-E6-4679-4-FE7-BADC-28-AB08-C5500

Otherwise I tend to use Tamiya chrome silver with a bit of extra dark sea gray to give it some body.

594CC5FF-FF7B-477F-B784-95447A04AF33.jpgI also use Bostik plumbers self adhesive foil.

Or self adhesive Baremetal aluminium or chrome.

In need recently of new supplies of washi type tape I wandered into the serried ranks of such suppliers in the large river named emporium.

There I had a WWCBD? moment, but immediately decided I already knew.

Meet one more attractive and entirely unnecessary item of equipment.

fated to be.

Possibly the next twenty years of masking covered  :)

This morning I gave the stickers a chance to impress me on the Hind.

P1010129.jpg

Colour me uncertain...

Once I find small serials for pre-war bipes I can reattach the undercarriage and make the benighted thing a biplane.

Kinda like this only betterererer.

P1010130.jpg

Utter c rap I think, the nose has been finished with a combination of Bare-Metal foil and Molotow.

You know what? I might paint it brown and green camo instead...

I have lost the gunsight for the Hurri and begun more painting on the Kestrel.

Paint got put on

And taken off in selectively selected other places

P1010006.jpg

Still not sorry I didnt open up the wheel wells, so there!

On top we have

P1010131.jpg

Some shades of aluminium paint.

P1010132.jpg

The once busted tailplane tip still OK

P1010133.jpg

Special decals for this on the agenda soon.

ciao

Yes they will mostly CalliG, like the small serials on the Hind.

Most of the decals here though are from the Modeldecals set.

Legs on now and much progress needed to play catch up with where it was before I messed up the nose again.

I need to remake the rear seater/standee's windscreen as well as the pilot's harness to reattach..

Johnny's lovely wheels will be painted and added to the undercarriage too as will the tail wheel I had to make up for this version as it has a wheel instead of a skid.

For the Kestrel I need  to print over the most heavily browned out piece of decal sheet I can find with the ejector seat and intake warnings.

That search continues...

Could you add a light browny-yellow background when you create the ejector seat and intake warning signs? Printed on clear decal paper?
