Hawker's Kestrel, Harrier, Hind, Hurricane Mk1, Hunters FGA9 and T7...

In the mean time it is time for Daco Strong

I don't like these home brew decals, more thought is called for...

But it's nice to have gotten beyond that wingroot fault at least.

Probably whip them off and add a layer of Tamiya  TS-79 for smoothness

Hunters are looking fantastic. Can’t wait to see them under decals. (Sorry @giemme)🤪 I always use Tamiya top coat too but ts-13 for my working coats and 79 or ???80 something (matte) for the final coat.  Is it the decal or the Daco strong? Maybe it’s just too much for it? Just a thought. Us black country blokes think thoughts occasionally. 😃

The decals are absolutely a huge disappointment Johnny mate

How do you like this?

I garnered a set of Airfix decals from the net, cripes!

Even underneath there is no depth of colour, if we'd printed transfers this badly at Butcher's back in the day we'd have all got the push.

The base white coat is too thin with no pigment in the base colour, even the squadron markings have caught skinny inks disease

These are coming off unless I can find a good fit in my decals stash folder which might let me drop one over the other, what

ever happens the squadron is due a change.

Yukk

On the topic of decals I'm still disappointed with the Kestrel home brews and am taking another look at

That would surely be well different and I might have suitable markings available...

Where are the spare decals?

Bill - I’ve used my own home-printed decals occasionally and generally they’ve been fine. I wouldn’t recommend using any kind of decal setting/softening solution, though, because they’re usually a bit more delicate than commercially printed ones. I have also found that trimming them too close to the print can sometimes cause the ink to run at the edges (presumably the water sneaks in under the top clear coat).
Hindsight, and all that… 🤷

Yeah sure enough I have had the same results but, on thinking about it this will be ok.

So I am pressing ahead with the Cosford Kestrel.

Oh joy, this means Terry can have the Yankee...

A little later that day

But

Five's alive!

It must be, I did put it on there but whilst I was fettling the underneath serials it slipped away...

Still I am happy enough to finish this now and I was not sure I would ever be happy with it...

Those original Hunter decals I thought looked ok. Maybe if the white is thin a spot of paint over the top? Just for future as the new ones look spot on too.

I love the kestrel. With those markings she reminds me of the Captain Scarlett interceptor, “Angel”?  That tail flash is insane and amazing. 👌🙌

Thanks Cookie, kinda happier with it now

And with the Hunter, now and for ever it will remain with tactical blue red markings.

After all who needs white????

This way I managed to use the other Airfix decals on the sheet and the squadron markings from the Matchbox kit that has become a Valley Girl.

I did try out the blue red tac markings in the Matchbox kit but they were drastically out of register with huge white arcs around almost half the circles.

Also the Kestrel now has home printed serials in 8 point and 16/sixteen point RAF_PW font.

They cannot go out of register that way, I am off now to learn text manipulation in Open Office.

Looks possibly easier than in MS Word, we'll see.

Ta muchly G, things moving slowly now.

The wingtip outriggers will need re-imagining from the oddball shape presented with the P1127 kit and the actual legs on the aircraft but the only way to start that is to make the Kestrel sit up on its own two/three feet, so.

P1010221-2.jpg

P1010220_(2).jpg

The rather horrible front leg is UV resin fitted whilst the rear peg has been stupogooed and the pair of rear wheels fitted using Formula560 cockpit glue which may allow me some leeway when the outriggers are built up from about ten pieces each.

I'll try that later.

Well, that's embarrassing...

No, not the bogroll toilet paper, the Tripartite markings...

I had forgotten this picture completely in the Warpaint book.

Oh well I have just printed a new set of mirrored markings which should sort that out...

A leetle bit larger too, as seen in the pic, oh well.

I have begun adding the Revell markings to the GR5 too, a bit at a time allowing the Daco Strong to have time to work between pieces of gripping areas.

It's an all over fumble fingers of a jet and I am not keen to have to redo any decals that get messed up by fumbling fingies.
