will2017
A bit of a long shot….. I’ve seen a picture of a Tornado F3 as a trials aircraft for the Meteor missile. What I’m interested on is the type of camera pod on the wings - does anyone have any idea. Think it was about 2007 or so, and as far as I can tell the aircraft used was ZE203. Thanks. speedy
I’ve got photo’s of this somewhere. The pilot was Dave Southwood and in the backseat was Peter James. The pods were the usual converted ECM pods from the early days of the Tornado. If you google them you see. Behind each window down the side is a camera mounting position. When not in use there is (I think) a little curtain, which we see as a black square. I’ll try and find my photos, but bear with me……. Note the extra marks on the fuselage. https://www.airhistory.net/photo/308671/ZE203 Edited February 22, 2022 by speedy
will2017
That's interesting news. Thanks speedy. I'd be interested in any pics you did have, simply to see how the camera pods differ from the baseline BOZ.
speedy
Sorry the brain said one thing the fingers typed another. The were converted ECM pod casings.

Des
Have a close-up photo print in sideview somewhere of one taken on a GR.1 but the same pod based on a Sky Shadow ECM Pod shape without side bulges or ventral air intake scoop , bit late at night but will try and find it in the morning then scan and post if no one else puts one up before then.

Does this image from the interweb help: And some other good views of the inboard face and underside of the pod here and here. As @speedy has suggested, the pods do look like repurposed Sky Shadow ECM pods. Hope this helps

Best laid plans etc. Pulled out the album where the images should have been but the slots are empty so either loaned them/pulled them out for reference and never got them/put them back. But the pods were carried by GR.1 ZD716 of the SAOEU at the 1991 RAF Leuchars Airshow and here are some links to other people's images of taken from almost the same position as mine were , no close-ups but they do show the details well. https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/military-unit/SAOEU (centre image a few rows down) https://www.flickr.com/photos/elaref/50160550251
speedy
I’ve found my hard drive but can’t the cable. My son was the last to use it. Stick with it, angry phone call to #1.🤬

Scoobydoof
As the lead Mechanical Design Engineer for that aircraft modifications, they were the old sky shadow based pods from BAe, the only change we made to them was new cameras in them 1
Scoobydoof
the only other external differences were meant to be a new g band (i think) antenna, possibly on the rear nose under carriage door and the modified eject lauchers
