Harry_the_Spider
With the paint still wet on the Sea Vixen I thought that I would take advantage of the appalling weather and crack on with the Phantom. Obligatory box shot. Decals look good without being too stencil heavy. Set up an indoor spray booth rather than my usual garden one for priming. All done within full view of my better half and without comment... so something is afoot! Some fairly horrible ejector pin marks on the inside of the intakes that required filling and there are some shockers on the wheels. Bang seats and cockpit this afternoon with a bit of luck.
Gondor44
I see that Italeri changed the decal sheet when they reproduced this Fujimi kit. Nice start. Gondor

Harry_the_Spider
Steady progress as whatever today's storm is called batters the house. I suspect that the primer will reveal all sorts of crimes on the long seam.
Riksbar
I remember seeing the jet on the box art when I was on an air cadet camp at Leuchars in the 80s
Brigbeale
I can’t resist looking at a Phantom build. Phantoms have gotta be (at least) one of those must haves in a collection. I’ve got two - One Airfix ‘Yellow Bird’ 767 Sqn FAA and a restored Monogram Phantom in camouflaged 111 Sqn liveries.
Harry_the_Spider
Quote Phantoms have gotta be (at least) one of those must haves in a collection. I've got another one that was one of my first builds after being "born again". If this goes well I'll probably buy two more and do the other schemes.
Harry_the_Spider
The detail inside the intakes is non existent. I found a picture of a Spey compressor facing and printed it out in various sizes. Then cut a couple out and glued them in. You can't really see it, but it is less obvious than there being nothing there at all. There was also a hideous right angled lip on the bottom edge that I chamfered back and filled.

Thom216
Simple and still quite novel approach! I like it.
bigbadbadge
Great start, I loke your idea for printing to compressor fans , a cracking idea. Great work Chris
Harry_the_Spider
Thanks to a torn meniscus in my knee the modelling season has started earlier than I would have liked. Broke out the paints and blew the dust off the compressor.
ROB61
The colours look perfect. I think the ILS aerial on the fin was not fitted to FAA FG1 when in service. If I am correct the Italeri instructions are incorrect See https://www.tumbex.com/militaryaviation.tumblr/post/156588254721

Harry_the_Spider
Offending aerial removed, filled, sanded and primed.
Harry_the_Spider
Some decals on, but I stopped before I entered The Zone Of Cock-Ups. Good call on the ILS aerial, as the tail fin decal would not fit if I had left it on. Some FAA cousins for inpsiration.
Gondor44
That was the ILS aerial not an IFF aerial Gondor
Harry_the_Spider
I stand corrected! Anyway, it would have mucked up the tail so I'm glad that it was spotted and that I removed it.
Gondor44
That is very true. Off the top of my head I think the IFF aerial is a little black triangle in front of the windscreen and below the nose, but I could be wrong. Gondor
Pantherhawk27263
I love a nice Phantom build. Great work so far, Harry.
Harry_the_Spider
And we're back in the room! Summer and garden related building work are a thing of the past. Also, as a result of doing something stupid I've got a fortnight off to get over a spot of surgery which means that it's time to break out the paints. Did a little bit more today. Got to the stage where I was doing more harm than good, so I'll finish it tomorrow.
