ANA Star Wars R2D2 Boeing 787-9

Recommended Posts

My last of the 1/144 787s and probably one of the most attractive liveries for the Dreamliner.

ANA had signed a 5 year contract with Disney and painted at least 4 of their aircraft in special Star Wars liveries.

Maybe some of you remember that a few years back,I already built that model, then with a 787-8,streched with resin plugs.

After I had finished that kit,Zvezda announced their -9 kit...

I actually never planned to build the R2D2 livery again because of its complicated design.

But a friend kept asking to sell him that model,so last year I finally gave in and sold it,which led me to the point to build another one for my collection again.

This time I used the 787-9 kit from Zvezda and a decal set from PAS instead 8A decs.

The decals were great to work with and are also durable enough to accept some heavy handling and trimming.

Again for the windows Authentic Airliner windows were used and details come from the nice Zvezda decal sheet and the spares box.

Painted with Gunze white surface primer 1500,clear coated with Gunze premium gloss prior and after the endless decal session.

All other paints are Gunze as well.

Now my Dreamliners are all done and the Star Wars jet is back in my collection.

No matter what,there wont be ever a 3rd  R2D2 build😉

May the force be with you

Alex

Looks great! I've flown on that plane!

I have the decals in 1/200 for a project later this year.

Really like how yours turned out!

Thank you very much.

Wow,must have been a great experience to fly on it.

I stay tuned for your 1/200 version then

Yes it was cool. I think it was also my first time on a Dreamliner. They had a life-size Yoda sitting in the cabin jumpseat (must have stowed him for takeoff). We had our baby on that flight so it was not so easy to fully take it all in.

Dreamliner is my plane of choice for long flights - not that I've done many the last few years! But in a past life I flew a lot and went on ANA 787s a few times. Also been on the -8 with the big 787 marking in your other (also great) build!

Now that really is quite something. What an amazing livery. It reminds me I must get on with my own 787-9 which won't be nearly as exotic!

Brilliant! That made me smile.

Your build quality and skill with the decals is outstanding.

Thank you very much.

It was quite a challenge to get everything on and fitting, esp. the front parts

Great work! I’m always amazed of how neat other modelists can apply such complicated decals. This stage of building the most addictive, but very nervious for me.

Thank you very much.

It was a time consuming task to apply all those elements.

The decals had very good quality,so it was an enjoyable task.
