DaveJL
Hello all, Here is my entry for this GB...if I get around to it - I think I've overcommitted to GBs somewhat! Eduard's 1/48 Mig-21bis 'around the world' in the markings of the Croatian Air Force, based at the 91st Air Force Base, Pleso, Zagreb in 2016. Kit: The lovely decal sheet: The scheme I'll be doing: Aftermarket solely consists of a CMK ejection seat: Although I have a Barracuda nose set on the way. I'll be loading it with one fuel tank on the fuselage and a pair of R-60 (AA-8 'Aphid') missiles on the wings. You can see the load and the aircraft in the below video: Hopefully I'll get to it after I clear the F/A-18 and Eurofighter off the bench, but still have another two entries for GBs that are either running or fast approaching! Cheers Dave
modelling minion
Nice choice Dave, a quite unusual western style air superiority grey scheme. I hope you find the time to join in, I know you are busy with other GB's.

I had thought about entering my other kit which has the parts for a Romanian Lancer conversion but with the number of GBs I've entered, this would be much quicker! I should get it fitted in as I plan to clear the F/A-18, Eurofighter and F-14 in that order so might slip this in before the Big and British GB...and then the Falklands GB 🙃

franky boy
Nice choice of kit and markings Dave. That’s the same that I’m building but mine will most likely be the Libyan bird. Hope you find time to fit it in. James

I think I might do the same Croatian grey scheme but in a different scale.

DaveJL
The briefest of starts made with the assembly of the modest load: 2x AA-8 missiles, 1x 23mm cannon and 1x fuel tank. The Barracuda resin nose also arrived: Exciting stuff! More soon, stay safe and lets hope things don't get too out of hand. Dave

You're right there Craig! 17 hours ago, exdraken said: Nice startski! What is the resin radom updating_ upgrading? First time I see this! Thanks Werner. The nose just allows you to close up the fuselage and insert the cone after painting. Also doubles as a handy nose weight! 2
DaveJL
Long overdue update and with the Typhoon out of the way, I can focus on this before starting the F-14, Nimrod and Harrier 🤨 Firstly, all the cockpit parts were sprayed in that bizarre blue/green colour. Of course, it doesn't match up with the colour on the etch parts but is good enough. A light wash also added: I opened the Barracuda resin nose next. A nice addition as it allows you to leave off the shock cone until painting is complete. Once I'd cleaned up the resin, I sprayed the nose ring in Tamiya Dark Iron and fitted it to the fuselage along with the cockpit parts and exhaust: The fuselage was then closed up without a jot of drama: The resin shock cone will add a bit of weight but I'm going to stuff some plasticine in behind it just to be sure it doesn't become a tail sitter. I also built up the spine and lower wing section: The internals appear to be the biggest job of this kit and, from memory, the rest of it goes together rather quickly. I've a few days off this week so I intend to make the most of it. Trying to be semi-frugal for the next few months as the missus and I have just bought a new home, due for completion in November, so modelling is a good excuse not to spend money, elsewhere that is More soon and stay safe Dave

Yes, I may have over committed. It might come down to dropping one build out but I'll see how I get on with the Mig this week.

DaveJL
Swift progress and it's looking decidedly Mig-21-ish! Majority of parts are now on. I had to run a bit of sprue gloop along the seam lines on both the fin and fuselage which will be left overnight to cure before being cleaned up. Other than that, it's gone together very well. Just a few Croatian specific bits to add here and there along with the windscreen then it's pretty much ready for primer. More soon and stay safe. DaveJL
Thanks all! @franky boy, I'm sure Paul's build is nice too, but I'll take that as a compliment for this build It's just about ready for the beginning of the prep and painting stage. I added the Croatian specific antenna, just fore of the tail fin and another circular sort just forward of the cockpit area. Pylons were also fitted at this stage as they needed a little extra thin to blend them nicely with the wings. CMK seat and the shock cone had their resin casting blocks removed and are ready for primer, along with the AA-8s and fuel tank: The rest of the sub assemblies: More soon and stay safe Dave 6

DaveJL
Just about ready for primer now. One thing I noticed is that the Croatian jets seems to have some sort of brown canopy seal, which is quite noticeable. To that end, I picked up a cheap Montex mask set which gives you the correct sized masked to allow this seal to be sprayed on. Full size Eduard masks were then fitted once this had dried. No idea how even it is though Unlike other Mig-21s, the undercarriage wells on the Croatian jets are painted white. CMK seat has been finished. Decals and etch ejection handles from the kit. AA-8s also done: Will hopefully get a lick of primer on tomorrow. More soon and stay safe Dave
