Hawk T.1, XX314, No. 4 FTS, RAF Valley, 1986.

Recommended Posts

To me the red, white and grey scheme is the best for this aircraft, and the one I remember from various airshows and bases in the 80s.

I used the Airfix Red Arrow kit for this build, with thanks to @Dr. Quack for the etched instrument panels. I also bought some CMK resin seats and Xtradecal stencils. I did a small amount of scratch building, just a couple of aerials and the canopy mirrors, handle and hinges and some detail inside the airbrake.

The kit went together reasonably well, though I needed filler around the intake joins and wing roots. Nice that Airfix included the option to have the flaps down.

XX314 was delivered to the RAF in July 1980. After serving for many years with 4 FTS at Valley it was also operated by 100 Sqn. The model shows the aircraft in its mid-80’s heyday whilst at Valley in the fast-jet pilot training role.

Likewise.  Thoroughly enjoyed the WIP and a lovely looking Hawk to finish with :D
